image.jpg What has everyone done for socket organization? Some of my drawer is shadowed when I worked on aircraft, others are on rails since I’m not bending wrenches these days. I just want organization that doesn’t cost a bunch.

    Beautiful....
Here's mine. I have a mix of post style, which I like, and drive style, which is cumbersome.

If I ever take the time to gather up all my tools I see another box in the future .

Why I keep putting it off.

When you have a lawn shed projects do get scattered around then some have been on hold for years

You can buy what you want from McMaster Carr.

Any more I just buy the sizes I need then a bunch of junk I will never use

Make sure to get the correct drill bit if you need it.

Agreed. I hope I don't need to drill. I'll try to re thread first.

Do you have the rotor off? try threading the bolt in from the other side if you have access.

I'm at the point I want to reorganize all my sockets and bits. I have Hansens in my drawer, and I've had metal Craftsman sticks in the past. Neither is the best IMO. And it depends on what your needs are. Hansens have comprehensive sizes, but you can end up with gaps in the rack that waste space. Also, they can have a punji-stick effect on your wrists. Metal sticks just get shitty and loose and rust, but I had cut several down for go-to kits in small boxes when working out of a truck or a toolbag. I'd do it by drive and by deep or shallow to make them easier to handle.

For aircraft, and using 1/4-inch and 3/8 drive, I'd rather have sticks or something mobile so I can take a probable range of sizes to potentially difficult work spaces, like high up on the wing/outer fuselage, especially on a tail-dragger, or worse, inside the fuselage. Both are a PITA to climb up and get back down, or crawl into and out of if you forget a tool or don't have the right size for the task. When I was 30, not so bad. Now, fuck that shit. It hurts. In these situations, it's nice to actually have a little 1/4-inch drive set ready to go in a small box kit.

Even crawling under a truck, it's nice to not have to crawl back and forth, but usually don't have many surprises.

1/2-inch drive an pretty much stay in the tool chest.

I thought something better than the Hansens for in the box, and So I just ran across these. Not totally space efficient, but good sight liens and easy to read sizes. Also, easier to tell if they are 6-point or 12-point, because they aren't upside down like Hansens

And I'm liking these sticks. Aluminum, and you can even alternate sockets on both side of the stick if you want.

I like those trays a lot, but damn there’s a lot of wasted space.

The Hansens waste space IMO too.

I haven't measured and compared the footprints, nor the SPI2 (sockets per square inch). And the Olson twins won't stab your wrists.
I envision the trays for 1/2-in drive normal and impact for shallow and deep sockets in metric and inch. Then sticks for all the 3/8 and 1/4 drive.

I'm going to need to annex the right hand narrow drawer just for ratchets, extensions, breakers, and oddballs.

Oh, and I just remembered. See how the 1/4 inch is in the back and not the front? That's because if I put the 1/2 inch in the back of the drawer, I can't pull the sockets off the fucking Hansen Needles of Despair because my drawers are not full extension.

New trays cheaper than new chest. :bananadead:

The magnetic Olsa looks good, and the price is not crazy either. I thought they would be more.
