    I would imagine the love stems from the mysterious nature of the character because you are right, not much is revealed in the movies, especially the OT. The PT explains a little more... But in the OT movies you see he is cool with Vader, and cool with Jabba the Hutt, and then you start to question his background even more as both Vader and Jabba seem entirely disconnected in the OT.
