I've had a very bad experience with this company. They took my money ($1,600) waited 4 weeks to only tell me they don't have the parts. Still waiting on my refund... Plenty of other places to get quality Tacoma parts without the hassle.

Hello osterhagen, BigMike here. I heard about your experience and we are sorry things played out the way they did. Please understand this was a very unfortunate and uber rare experience. We did refund your order in full within one hour of your cancellation, so there was no problem there. Hopefully you'll give us another chance to prove our service and products to ya down the road, but either way I hope you can get things handled and your rig back up in tip top shape

Because this was posted, I would like to explain this rare situation to the passersby:

This order was for a late model R150F 5spd, cores for which are becoming increasingly difficult to find. We did have a few cores on hand when the order was placed, but when we opened them up to begin the custom order, it was discovered that none were usable for a rebuild (rust, broken critical internal parts such as gears, etc., such is the nature when dealing with cores). As discussed with the customer privately via email, we had to up-rate the Core process of this product on our website since it now requires the customer to send us their core to rebuild, which was refused, so we parted ways.

    Our unique Core Exchange Service:
In an ideal world, we prefer to have the customer's original transmission to rebuild, but because we currently have almost 50 transmissions on order this would mean the customer would have a disabled vehicle for a few weeks while he or she waited for completion.

We are therefore very unique in that we do all the dirty leg work of hitting wrecking yards hunting down and collecting hundreds of core parts every month to reduce the downtime of customer vehicles by providing an Exchange Service, where we ship a fully rebuilt & high quality transmission (installable the same day received), and then send back the old core at their leisure rendering no loss of vehicle use to the owner. Unfortunately, not everyone sends back cores and/or not all cores we receive back are rebuildable, so we are constantly on the hunt of more and more suitable cores.

We have over a quarter of a million dollars invested in cores and build, send out, and exchange multiple cores daily. We are very proud of this exchange service that Marlin started back in the 90s and it works extremely well for thousands of orders every year. As stated, this was a very unfortunately and uber rare event that has since been appropriately updated on our website for future orders. In fact, out of all the transmissions we build only one other model requires an up-front core and that is the Turbo 5spd unicorn.

If anyone has any questions about our core exchange process, please contact us directly at https://www.marlincrawler.com/contact/customer-service

    Regards,
    BigMike

    Hey "Big Mike",

Kinda bored with this at this stage and I did finally get my refund, but let's stop with the BS about this being an "uber rare experience". I will show you and everyone else here some of the MANY examples of your great service. The only reason your company even still exists is because you make a few "niche" items that not many others provide. Hopefully this won't always be the case. That and your name used to stand for something clearly and that is still carrying you along.

It's really sad because you guys could have just bit the bullet and done the right thing here (found a damn core and built the transmission in the time you agreed), but instead as you clearly have many times in the past, you chose to make it your customers issue. You will keep screwing people over regardless of this post, but I'd bet it costs you more then just buying a core would have.

That was just on the first page and only from Facebook. Plenty more on forums and other websites.

Thank you for the reply osterhagen  I know we've parted ways but thank you for the opportunity to part on the same page.

Thank you for the examples. To be fair, none of these issues are related. Please understand this is a transmission service we offer that goes above other shops who require your truck and/or parts up-front. I am serious when I say we physically go to wrecking yards to find cores. Being able to rebuild & ship custom transmissions ahead of time using on-hand cores is a huge investment that we offer to minimize customer vehicle downtime. We build and ship a lot of transmissions and up until your order only one other model required an up-front core (discussed above). You're literally the first 3.4L R150F order we could not fulfill without a core and I updated our website last week to reflect this. Once we come up with some usable cores we'll amend the listing accordingly. For additional clarity, I added the following to our Core policy @ https://www.marlincrawler.com/terms#core:
...as well as a new option on every transmission for the customer to send their original parts to us and avoid the core charge all together! (No longer by request only.) :D

When we were ready to build your order, we truly did not have a useable on-hand core for you. :( Unfortunately there was no bullet to bite; We wholeheartedly could not fulfill the order.
That same day we extended the option to rebuild your own core, which you did not wish to do, so we promptly refunded your order in full. No hard feelings here and we hope you can find another solution and get your project buttoned up soon! :hattip:

In closing and in defense of the reviews presented, last decade we had a couple rough stretches of unreliable sales personnel that spanned longer than I would have liked. As we are a family business, employees are family, and discharging them was very difficult for me. For example we had multiple year-long stretches of only averaging one sales employee. We now have 2.5 sales employees and have trained an additional two that bounce between other departments when loads flex. As a result, our team has become very responsive to website, email, and Facebook messages, and I firmly believe our customer service is the best it's been since the 2008 downturn. It is certainly difficult to please everyone, as you've unfortunately had to experience, but we have made giant strides in customer satisfaction which has allowed us to invest in infrastructure growth for some new remarkable upcoming products

Stay safe and hopefully we'll bump into one another on the trail someday!

    Regards,
    BigMike
