stupid gear oils must be pricey these days
Toyota place in Sioux City quoted me nearly $400 to change the MT and 4wd ,
    wow
local corporate places are more so i just checked up the river to see what they had, was thinking it was going to be just a shy bit over $200 lol i was wrong

    i am finding online $55 a gallon for 75w-90

Cleaning up my home office/lab. Working from home has turned this room into a minor disaster. Also, watching spacex.

Do it yourself if you don’t want to pay for labor. The fluid cost for trans and diffs is $100-200.. plus time to do the work.. which is a couple hours, probably 3-4 by the book

the stinger is the cost of that fluid!
seems to be be way much more than the motor oil is!
not sure i can get a rough estimate diy time to take, possibly upto six hours squirming around under without a shoulder getting stuck lol with no open pit, etc
then the skid removal reinstall yada yada
and then trying to avoid a mess of spillage with being clumsy. So a pro with the proper set up not terribly overboard on pricing

circle back to that pricey fluid again! that is the main cost right there me thinks
11 quarts at somewhere around $20+ a quart non-bulk pricing idk close to the $200 for just that + added expenses for a clean job and misc. parts
i recall 30 years ago when at JiffyLube teching the jeep 4x4s it was 14.99 ~ 19.99 per gear box with aide of open pit and easy peasy when a teenager

Yeah.. it’s not motor oil. Look it up on amsoil, it’s $15-20/qt. The MT Tacoma is super easy DIY, if your drain and fill plugs aren’t rusted on

it would be nice if my stock truck was 'lifted' and could squeeze underneath easier without getting the old shoulder stuck/wedged on something lol
that has happened to me before

you would be amazed how little of rust there actually is underneath there!
i have seen pics of the aluminum rusted transfer case housings, mine is looking near like new lol, especially after the rust inhibitor was sprayed all over underneath last year
but pics i see are probably of trucks on the coastal areas that drive through salt water & from the ocean mist?

They have made a shit load of updates and major improvements since original release. I had it on release and stopped playing fairly quick. I picked it back up recently after the mech update and it is really good now.
