I was being sarcastic with the land anchor. A come-a-long hand winch is a very slow way to recover a vehicle.

    Very slow is right

1st time I ever got stuck, called my co-worker to come help me gtfo. Well getting someone into where you got to is not always the easiest thing to do over the phone.

I had him come in from the opposite direction we came in from, since I figured it would be easier on the other side of the mud bog. Wrong.

We got his truck stuck probably 150 meters from mine. He only had one of those come-a-long winches.:bananadead:

Long story short, the wife and I got stuck at 7:30PM. Rolled back into the driveway at 2:45AM. The wife will never let me live that down.

I must of worked that come-a-long for 3 hours straight at one point.

Imagine how many flips you would've needed with the two tree trunk method.

with 2 people and a flip flop winch, you wouldn't need to call a second vehicle

Land anchors are used in sand, and there are a variety of types out there. Ive never seen anyone in Canada carry one, true. I’ve used a come-a-long. Back in the day, a come-a-long was a common tool off road. The come-a-longs we used were pretty heavy duty, and definitely not Princess Auto grade, haha.
Nobody drove off road for sport and adventure in those days, it was almost always related to forestry, surveying, geologic exploration, or hunting and fishing. In those days, with primitive equipment and vehicles, folks were more judicious. If you buried a Green and White in the mud on a trail like that when I worked for MNR in Northwestern Ontario, you’d catch hell and maybe worse. at the very minimum you’d have to live down the disdain of your peers.
Some things, though, are priceless, like a good winch. It’s a tool you hope you never need, though.

Maybe a log or tree stump?

I suppose you could weld in filler plates for the sliders.

Yeah i couldn't find that message you put using the search function and i knew it was quite some time ago.
i ended up using another can of bend liner since that was what i had on hand from when i touched up the bumper

    IMG_20200603_192940.jpg

degreased/ washed it with dawn dishsoap, scrubbed it with steel wool, dried it all, and gave it 3 coats. should be enough
