Well....3rd generation pilot took flight today. Grandpa started in the Air Force in 1959 and ended in 1997. I started in 1986 and still going strong with 20 years so far at NJA. My youngest began his journey today. 6846F4B1-61FD-459F-BEE4-2FC2CED23C14.jpg

Thanks for saying so. It's hard to take a bad picture of a float plane. And the environment they operate in kind of lends itself to provide the perfect backdrop. She's indeed a beaut though.Or she was. We had a hail storm about a year and a half ago that left some holes and ringworm. It's covered in colour matched patches. Maybe recovering it entirely when it comes out of the water this fall. It's a shame, cuz whoever laid that paint on did such an awesome job.

The guy I own this plane with out here at the lake, he had sold his two planes, a really built and modded PA-12, and a Citabria 7GCBC. He was very generous, allowing me to fly them whenever I wanted, which would be a couple of times a week whenever I was off work and out at camp. Float flying is addicting. Anyways, we were sitting around in his hangar one afternoon, both kind of feeling a bit of regret about not having a plane to fly. Long story short, he showed me this yellow Champ that was advertised in the COPA (Canadian equivalent of AOPA), we enquired, and 10 days later the airplane had completed the journey from Orillia to Kenora on a flat deck behind his Ram. He told me the second he saw, he knew he was coming home with it. We trailered it because it hadn't flown in over a year, and there's a lot of inhospitable territory between there and here if you run into trouble. Glad we did, because there were certainly a few issues to take care of before we could jump in and go flying. Some mods over that first winter, droop tips, vortex generators, and the big one, shortening the back float struts so it sat properly in the water. Winter number 2, the O-320 and borer prop went on.

It brings us a lot of joy, and it's a rewarding thing to be able to share that, so if for whatever reason, you find yourself up in this corner of Ontario, the offers open to come out and do some flying

And one shot from tonight, leaning out the door as I taxied in. It was a perfect evening for flying.

That was fun, got it first try. Pretty sure I would have starved to death or run out of fuel in real life though.

That’s a shame. I actually enjoy riding those old birds. To me, they were quieter and generally more comfortable than anything comparable.

My airplane turned 74 today. Rolled off the factory floor on June 6, 1946. Buzzed over to Catalina to celebrate.

Very nice. My daughter's bday too.
Did you land at AVX? I haven't been over there since they re-did the runway. So many stories about the old runway but I loved flying there. I meet people all the time who have little to no actual flying experience but they've somehow heard the horror stories about AVX.

Ive landed there a bunch since the re-do of the runway, but I never went before so I’m not sure how bad it used to be, but I hear it’s much better. It is still a little bumpy though. Fun spot, I love it.
