Recently went and looked at a 2008 taco with only 80k miles and 1 owner the truck was solid had a dent in the rear and the guy botched it fixing it also bumper a little rusty so that's why price is so low, looking underneath not to much rust but no new frame should I worry to much about that? also front drive shaft where it meets the motor was kind of rusted out just replace it? Tips on how to talk the dealer down with that dent?

What does "not much rust" mean? Not much for central TX or not much for Ohio? Huge difference

Lots of hardware under the truck will corrode, I wouldn’t worry about that. If the frame is corrosion free and it’s really a one owner with 80k, sounds like a great deal. I wouldn’t worry about not having a frame replacement.

Could you give us more info on the truck?
As in Single, A/C or D/C cab?
    Engine and transmission type?

If it’s a 4x4 you’re probably approaching wheel bearing time.
The fluids should all be changed, as with the belt and spark plugs. (30k for 4.0 and 100k for 2.7)

Check above the catalytic converters for major frame rust. Specially around the heat shield area.
Check for engine oil leaks. (Valve cover and timing cover)
Check the tires (even the spare)

The truck is 12 years old. Keep this in mind when negotiating the price.
Also, be realistic. It’s a 12 year old truck. It’s going to need things maintained sooner than a newer truck.

    FWIW, I have on ‘07, 4x4, A/C, AT, O/R.
I have almost 130k on my truck. It is in Good shape. Not Great shape.
I wouldn’t expect to get 13k for my truck. So I plan to keep it, until it isn’t cost beneficial or my needs change.

Good luck. And welcome to TW.

FWIW, my '08 was inspected carefully, on a lift, by myself and a very trusted tech/friend. We both deemed it good shape for a 12yo Ohio/Pa truck. A couple months later Toyota declared a new frame was in order. Thumbnail sized hole on top of a cab mount bracket. Be diligent.

New England truck with no frame replacement? Hard pass. I'm in Maine and when I was shopping for my Tacoma, I wouldn't look at them unless they had a new frame

There is no science behind this but in my experience if a bumper is rusty the frame started rusting long before that. I have seen plenty of vehicles that the visible things are the last to begin rusting. As mentioned above, snow region vehicle without a frame replacement is a no go.

My Texas truck had a rusted stock bumper never seeing a hint of winter .

Unless it was in a Bigger City it might not have seen much winter weather .

Heck I know people that drive 100 miles one way to work.

80,000 miles is nothing did it live it`s whole life up there

Maybe someone can go look at the truck with you depends where you are

used vehicles need attention your frame will need tender loving care to keep it happy.

OP, be aware that the ISD (in service date) determines whether a frame is covered or not under the replacement program. 12 years, and from what I've read, they don't waiver from it, even a little. There is a chance the truck you're looking at could still be covered if need be.

The truck is 12 years old. The frame replacement service runs 12 years from the date it went into service. Title, registration, etc.

Grab the VIN and check the Toyota owners website. That will tell you when it went on the road.

Fast talking (probably dishonest) high pressure salesman, walk away. New England truck with rust problems and the frame replacement has either run out or is close , run away from that.
