I bought the truck new in early May with 27 miles on it. I reset Trip A before I pulled off the dealership lot. Now look at this:

    https://streamable.com/4872lv

Am I missing something here? Odometer reads 929.. Trip A reads 931.1.. shouldn’t that be impossible?

I remember looking at it a week or two ago and Trip A was about 27 miles lower than the odometer, as expected.

    Am I missing something here?

I felt like I was going crazy when I noticed it the first time lol

I wonder if it’s something I should talk to the dealership about, or just ignore it.

Maybe backing up adds mileage to the trip odometer, but not the real odometer (to avoid rollbacks)?

Brilliant point, and that's the only thing I could think of aside from foul play

Interesting.....you’d think they’d just make it count positively (count up) rather than just not count reverse miles at all?

Maybe. I have a hard time believing I’ve backed up 28 miles in a month, though haha

It's related to the coriolis effect on the tumbler as it traveled west.

My 01 tundra speedo and odo was dead on as far as actual speed and a measured mile. I've gone the same distance with the new tacoma...it reads almost 1.1 miles to an actual mile. I swear the speedo is off to reading mph higher than actual.

Interesting for sure. I checked the factory service manual and see there is "vehicle speed pulse signal integrated value" that measures distance. Integrating of velocity signals is known to create integration drift. It's possible that the drift is corrected (or not corrected) differently for the trip and the odometer creating some variance.

Other possibility is if the distance signal (pulses) are stored in counters in the ECU the main odometer may be stored in a larger register than the trip resulting in variances in the calculation and thus the drift as the trip "rolls over" in the register more often.

30 miles in 1000 seems like a lot and that'd be 3% error.
