This is a Tundra thread in the Tundra section. You also brought up your Tacoma being a POS. I would say the same thing to tacoma driver that's on ford forums talking shit too.

I started this thread. The purpose is to discuss upgrading from a Tacoma to a Tundra. I'll also state the obvious -- Toyota makes reliable trucks. The engine in my Tacoma hasn't changed significantly in 15 years. That's a good thing. It speaks to reliability. If it ain't broke.... I don't want a turbo engine or the latest electronic gadgetry. I want my truck to be truck-ish -- rugged and reliable. And I want it to do man stuff like haul things and not bitch about it.

I'm glad you're enjoying your F250, but I, too, question why you're still on this forum. There's gotta be something great about Tacomas that keep you coming back.

The only things a taco does better then a tundra is:
    1- offroading
    2- fuel economy

The 1st, yes. The 2nd, no. They both get shitty mpg.

Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel & axe) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. CH4x4 switch for front camera and 'anytime' rear camera. Billet front mount seat risers. Bed mounted 4 lb fire extinguisher. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires. Custom Sliders.
    For me the answer is:

    1. I spend 50% of my time in the DC metro and parking spaces are very narrow as real estate is a premium.

    2. Fuel usage / MPG.

    3. The exterior styling of the Tacoma is more modern and more aesthetically pleasing imo.

    4. The interior styling of the Tacoma is more modern and more aesthetically pleasing imo. Although the extra interior space would be handy if not for items 1, 2 and 3.

    5. I tow about 8-10% of my miles and the trailers I use are all <4,000 lb fully loaded. I'd love to own a 25 ft Airstream which would necessitate a bigger truck.

Now if I happen to get freed from my stint in the urban jungle AND Toyota updates the Tundra interior, exterior and gives it a v6 turbo then I'll revisit this topic.

    4. New taco interior is gross, everywhere I look there is something in the way, my knees hit everything and the seat is pretty much on the floor. New taco interior looks 10 years out of date already.
    Opinions of course.

Seriously considering selling my 18 Tundra for a new Tacoma... I miss everything about the Tacoma’s. May just get a new Tacoma and a first gen Tundra.... if I can let my first gen Tacoma go:).... so many adult decisions.

    Hint:

A 1st gen tundra is a Tacoma. Just has an eating disorder.

Just kidding. There is no perfect vehicle.

My 2nd gen Tundra hasn't moved in a month. It's still hooked to the fishing boat from when I went steelhead fishing.

I run the 1st gen Tacoma for everything.

I'm waiting to see the new Tundras roll of the assembly line. Lots of competition. I want my next truck to be a hybrid or battery. Won't ever buy a new one, so I'll have my Tacoma for a few more years.

Truck prices, in general, are getting crazy. Who wants to spend $60K for a used truck????

    Mostly dust and dirt.
One thing I’ve noticed on this forum is that truck owners have many different priorities.

I don't think Tundra is a better choice than Tacoma, so there is no upgrade...but downgrade.

I agree with your statement about reliability, and that is the key point for the truck owners priorities.

I don’t think anyone has said the tundra is an upgrade. There’s a place where a tundra is a better fit for someone and where a tacoma is a better fit. Neither is an upgrade or downgrade. Hell, the higher end Tacoma’s are probably more expensive and definitely more optioned than an SR tundra.

Ok so I feel I can make a pretty unbiased opinion here. My first 3 Toyotas were a 2006, 2011, and 2017 Tacoma. I then went to a 2019 Tundra. Just traded my Tundra in for a 2021 Tacoma Off Road with Tech Package. Why? Because they offered me $46,500 for my Tundra...I paid $40,000 OTD for it in August 2019.

Now, here is what I miss about my Tundra:

    -The Space

That's about it. I didn't need a Tundra. I just wanted a full size truck. That Tundra suited me well. But I don't have a big camper, I don't pull a trailer for work, I only have 1 kid. I traded in for a Tacoma because the Tacoma had all the luxury features I wished my Tundra had: Leather seats, sunroof, apple car play, etc. I could've gotten that had a traded for a 2020+ Tundra Limited/Platinum/Pro/1794 BUT I would've been $55,000+ for one at this point or close to that for those features.

My Tacoma is smaller. I feel that every time I sit in it. But I never really needed that Tundra space. Sure it was nice, and I do miss it, but I'm just fine in my 20+ MPG Tacoma with the bells and whistles I'm glad to have now.

I traded my 17 Tacoma in for a Chevy Silverado because I needed the room and more power. Looks like I will be trading my Silverado in for a tundra. I just have not decided on which one the off road or the pro

Great trucks, just poor mileage. Wish there was a race version.
