Entertaining the idea of getting a RTT for my trip out west.

Someone either lead me in the right direction or talk me out of it.

RTT are heavy af and expensive.

Get a good ground tent you can set up quickly.

I'd rather get an awning with the enclosure room than a RTT. more space and weighs way less. plus can serve multiple functions.

We still have our Overlander XL, it's not too bad. But I agree, if I did it again I'd go hardshell.
If the huge mother would fit on a shortbed, I'd have already sold it to Derrick.

I hear ya. I haven't seen any issues with my roommate's CVT RTT. He wants a hardshell too like you mentioned. I don't like the wedge very much, not sure why.

I can get you one that’s larger than a queen that would fit on a short bed

I’d get a ground tent for what you’re talking about doing. No need to splurge on a RTT that you’re going to use on one trip.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Weird

    I like this answer.
I can get you a solid deal on hard shells like the name brand “iKamer” and a wedge. In fact. The wedge is made in the same factory as “roofnests” wedge

it really depends on the tens. I had a 23zero and it was fine for a while, then i was always fighting with the zipper as it got used more

I also had a FSR tent which the cover just strapped on. it was a lot better. I just really hate the zippered covers.

    Understandable.

I don't think I would regret buying an RTT, even a $25 Walmart tent I bought would make me happy. I just want easy set up/put away for long road trips. I like the idea of being up high off the ground, safe from any potential predators while I'm sleeping since I ain't gonna hear shit, but would feel my truck moving pretty good, or running water from rain. (deaf)

With wedges, I think what I dislike is that I'm pretty tall and I feel I'll lose some feet space as it slopes down. Then again, I've never personally sat in an hardshell RTT to judge that properly.

You have come a long way from sleeping under a tarp in the bed of your truck.

IMO this is the most important aspect of any setup that so many people overlook. In all the trips I’ve taken the most annoying thing was having stuff that takes a while to set up.

That’s why I have a softopper and a tent with a built in sleeping pad I can just toss in the bed of my truck.

    Indeed.

I used this tent below the on the trips I've been. I enjoyed it, but it was a pain in the ass setting it up and putting it away, specially in the heat.
