Went to toytec to pick up a couple of small parts. One of the things I bought was new splash guards from RAD rubber designs. So far really happy with this product. They’re made from 1/8 thick nitrile rubber and very stout compared to the stock ones9762CB1C-A17C-4D45-8783-FD3A19D78319.jpg61D309DC-B5DF-428E-8005-32710646036C.jpg3F3C71A1-6E55-4B2B-B7B6-8A92C7AFF8E7.jpg6544BFF9-0DFD-49BA-9877-3B6E1414BD4A.jpg622E4B33-AF8C-417C-BAD7-C70D5C0F4754.jpgEDC3905A-42C4-440B-BF70-1A758FCD2537.jpg

Had some serious downtime at work today, so I took the chance to address some things so I wouldn’t have to come in on my day off.

First was the shifter. Ever since I replaced the frame, it hasn’t quite lined up in the gear slots. The frame replacement kit came with all the hardware for the adjuster stud into the shift linkage, I just never installed it. So I installed the new parts and adjusted the shifter

Following that I finally replaced my power steering rack, which I should’ve done with the frame replacement but, hey, hindsight is 20/20. I bought a unit from rack doctor, with outer tie rod ends and poly bushings. I swapped their bushing kit for a total chaos bushing kit

Overall the truck is starting to really take shape. It might not be the plan I thought when I bought the truck, but needs change, and with that the build’s direction changes. Hopefully more updates soon

So I recently did 2 mods that I had on my 2000 that I really missed having. First was weathertech window visors. I absolutely loved having them on my 2000, and I have them on my wife’s 4Runner, so I said screw it and finally got a set

    A038A205-B6F2-4F34-ADED-85A3DD156579.jpg

Second mod was L.E.D. dome lights, I searched Tacomaworld and got mixed messages at first on L.E.D. dome lights and I ordered a set of JDM ASTAR CANBUS bulbs hoping that would work just fine... but I was wrong. As most others have figured out, they only work with the ignition on. so after more tacomaworld searching, I found I needed to add resistors to the bulbs.

I used a 100 ohm/3 watt resistor, I soldered one resistor to each of the map light bulbs, and 2 resistors to the done light bulb. I’m happy with the brightness of the bulbs, they are unbelievably bright.

Finally got me a set of Tacoma Limited bucket seats!!!!! I started searching through car-part.com, and I found a few sets on the east coast. I finally ended up getting in contact with a junkyard in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. They sent me some photos and a shipping quote and I said fuck it, let’s do it!!!! I ordered them on August 23rd, and they finally showed up today!!!! So I used half of my lunch hour to install them!!

I’m super excited about getting a set of these seats. I’ve now owned 3 Tacoma’s, and I’ve wanted the nice bucket seats in all of them and now I’ve finally got them!!!!

Is there a winch in your future? I spy a steel cable under those seats...

So last Wednesday on my way to work, my truck started running... funny. It was starting to surge, and would ping intermittently under heavy load. I pulled it in and ran some tests, and it appeared that the fuel pump was starting to go. So I ordered a walboro 190 from URD and installed it the next day. On my test drive after putting in the fuel pump, check engine light comes on with a P0325 knock sensor code and will not accelerate. So I parked it at work and took a rental home. Fast forward to last night... knock sensors showed up, I installed them and I drove home. About halfway home the truck starts really surging and will ping every tome I go past half throttle. I get home, and decide to drive it to work and figure it out tomorrow. I leave for work this morning and I can’t get the truck past 40 MPH and it’s surging very bad. After getting 4 miles from my house I pulled over and called a coworker to tow me to work. While waiting for him I find a pending P0420 code.

After getting to work and pricing out OEM cats, I sent it to the exhaust shop we do all our business with this is what they found...
    84DEB3C5-F05A-47D6-A39D-664DD72AB509.jpg

Primary cat came apart and lodged half of its guts into the secondary cat. So after 1 week, $1,100, and a new fuel pump, knock sensors, and cats... she’s back on the road

I didn’t want to ditch my 2000 at first either. I do miss having a 5 speed, but I still feel at home this way. This is my 3rd 1st gen Tacoma, I’ve had 1st gens since I was 17 in high school, so... almost 10 years.

I've had my 99 since 04 when I turned 16. I would love to cab swap my truck to a 4 door, but it feels like a load of work and money for something I don't **need**

I hear ya, I didn’t need a new truck either. But I saw the writing on the wall. I had just gotten married, and I had my 2000 Tacoma xtra cab, and a 1994 xtra cab pickup, and I knew that a car seat wouldn’t fit for shit in either. I figured it was best to buy the truck while I had no mortgage or kids to care for, instead of waiting thill I had those things and couldn’t afford a new truck. I ultimately decided on selling the Tacoma cause the pickup had so much sentimental value to me. And yet stupidly enough I sold the 94 pickup to my best friend about 2 weeks after selling the Tacoma. Life makes you do crazy shit

I’ve owned my 98 since 99 and personally put 210,000 miles on it.

just bought an 04 DC in August because me, the GF, daughter and dog outgrew the xtra cab. Still have the 98 though. Can’t get rid of it and am justifying keeping it to pass on to my daughter as her first vehicle.

I do miss the 5speed and really don’t like the A340F. Especially in Colorado and the passes. But there is something nice about being lazy driving.
But I’ll have a decision to make soon. My tranny pump is whining badly :/

What are the x-codes for trans temp? I've been trying to find out so I can pull the trigger on a scan gauge or an ultra gauge
