When you have a winch and there's a tree every 3 feet, it's less brave than you think! :)

I like to run solo most of the time so it's essential if you're gonna do that.

We are planning an overnight trip up there this weekend. Myself and at least one other truck and then possibly a Jeep. Does anyone have anything showing the camping spots ? Ideally I’d love to deploy the rtt up at max patch but was told that isn’t permissible.

Funny, I got caught in that same hail storm on Sunday. I ran another road not far from there https://goo.gl/maps/4H9dihW9hxSmiNecA it wasn't great.

But not long after we turned back onto I-40 it started hailing. You and I must have been out there at the same time.

It was an intense little burst! I'm lucky I didn't get hailed on directly.

yeah it wasn't fun. It hit us while on I40 so traffic just about came to a stop while we all got hammered. I was thankful when I got home and saw we escaped damage.

Hurricane is completely doable alone. I lived just a few miles from it when I was still in the Asheville area. Theres one section toward the end that can make your butt pucker a bit, aside from that its an easy ride. Obviously that changes if there has been a ton of rain or snow/ice. but on a normal dry day or on a day that it rained but it wasnt a washout, its an easy ride.

I miss that trail, theres also some great camping toward the I-40 side of it.

    Great pics & video!
That spot from :57 to 1:27 looks rough! I don't know if I would've attempted that without someone guiding me. I want to go here again but in the winter.

I saw on another forum that someone ran it about a month ago. Forest Service map still shows it open yearlong as well.

With the incoming snow predicted, it could be a fun Christmas activity!

I thought it was now closed past the residential area during non-hunting season?

I'm off the week between New Years and Christmas and was thinking that might be a good time to run it.

Black bear season runs through Jan 1 if that's the case. I can't get a clear answer from the forest service about the road. I don't think even they know what's supposed to happen with it.

Let me know if you want company. If I can make it, I'd like to go.
