tired of having my shovel and axe inside the camper... even though i had them on the side of the fridge out of the way, it still got cluttered over there... so i made use of a warrior products mount (lockable) i had laying around and a couple quick fists... to open the side, i have to rotate the axe. but this way, they're both tight up against the side and not sticking up above the camper either.

Good to see that some tools will fit up there without too much fuss. Did you have to use the t-nuts that GFC sells to mount them or do generic t-nuts work on the GFC utility tracks as well?

GFC track nuts. that slot is so damn small in depth normal t-nuts don't fit... i just bit the bullet and got a bunch for a variety of future projects of whatever... grabbed some of the larger ones for the awning mount off the back and small ones for stuff like this.

Dang, guess I can't fault them for having their own proprietary slot size...

Do they have 2 different sizes? The only ones I see are the same size, the track nuts and track studs. Unless you're talking about the ones that they make for the Tacoma bed slots.

They have a larger size they use for the awning mount. You have to call or email them to order.

Has anyone taken their GFC through a car wash?

Yes, I take mine thru the local one. Have done it a few times without issue. Didn’t notice any leaks.

This is one of my fave things about the GFC, that it WILL fit in car washes.

Anybody mount a bike on top of their GFC? Have you noticed a significant drop in MPG, or is it a pain to get it on and off? I currently use a tow hitch rack but it sets of the TSS every time I'm in reverse. I have this awesome rack on my truck so I might as well put it to work!

    It's DLX son!
My buddy has a rack on top of his high-rise camper shell, about as tall as the GFC when closed. It's a pain in the ass to load and unload frequently. He also almost ripped it off driving under a roadside tree. Gets plastered with bugs on long trips. He hasn't mentioned MPGs.

Dude, that is sweet. Do you have more pics of your setup? I just got notified that my GFC is complete and I am sooo stoked. I can't wait to get a trip out west to pick it up.

Has anyone taken the gfc to a drive in theater? Curious what you used for sound and if you blocked people’s view

Got my camper a few weeks ago and have spend a few nights in it now. With how the tent snaps into the wedge every 8" it leaves a lot of space for mosquitoes to enter, not to mention how the doors don't fully zip and are left open at the bottom. The second time I used the camper a hundred or so mosquitoes entered when it cooled down at night and they found it was nice and warm inside. Fortunately I had a can of Deet that I sprayed around all the tent edges but that does not seem to be ideal. The next night was better due to the deet, but then the noseeums decided to show up. I'm pretty sure they were able to pass directly through the screens.

Other than suspending a bug net, has anyone figured out a solution to this? Other than moving out west where apparently they don't have bugs?

I haven't contacted GFC yet, and am posting here for some constructive help, rather than the other thread where they love to rip on these things.

    Thanks

Be careful where you apply the deet. It is pretty unfriendly with a lot of plastics. Rain jackets especially can get destroyed by the stuff. Not sure about the gfc materials.
    edit: here’s an example https://sectionhiker.com/deet-dissolves-breathable-fabrics-experimental-results/

The permethrin sprays/treatments for clothing works pretty well, and I would think would be safe for the rent material.

Yeah, I rarely use the stuff. I know it can basically melt plastic. Permethrin is a good idea, thanks. Still, I can easily slip a finger through some of the gaps where the tent snaps in. I'm thinking of making a fabric panel that velcros in around the edges for the time being.

What are you using to power that? A second battery under the hood? Solar? Looks great! Trying to figure out how I want to run power into my gfc for lights and charging n whatnot

the power bank in the bed cubby controls power to the fan via a switch. the power bank is powered by the auxillary battery under the hood. the aux battery is charged now through both main battery/alternator and solar (2-100W Renogy panels) using a Redarc BCDC1225d. the Redarc prioritizes power first through solar, then through the main battery/alternator.

found out from this last trip the fan is a power hog and when combined with hot temps (trying to keep the fridge at temp) and charging various electronics, you can unexpectedly wake up to a very low voltage on the aux battery... daytime temps were 100+ and didn't start dropping until 6pm. had the fan running all day and night, fridge set at 31, charging phones throughout the day and night.

Did you need to do any modifications to the mounts? Or just use GFC T-nuts and it was good to go?
