Hey there, how did you mount the brake controller box behind the dash?

used double sided 3m molding tape and stuck it to the side of the Body control module.

I took a look at your build thread. Great work. I have been thinking about a Paulk build trailer.

    Thanks man!
Yeah I looked at his and other ‘Paulk inspired’ ones. Very cool. I didn’t really like the loose tools but I can see why some people would. There were some great ideas. Once it’s fully complete I’ll post pictures. It’s come a long way and I’m pretty happy for the most part

I have made a Paulk trailer setup for my basement workshop. A great space saving way to get back part of my shop. I think Paulk has done 3 complete trailer builds. Each one improving on the last. The drawer system he made works for me.

so far I’m happy with it. It seems to work well the few times I’ve actually used it. I also considered the curt but it seemed like it might be kind of distracting with all those lights. Plus the switch blank mount for the redarc made mounting super easy and reverseable.

there are 3 bolts at the bottom of the knee bolster, 2 are easy to see and get to, the 3rd is under the left kick panel. After the bolts are out the rest just unsnaps. The kick panel has one plastic nut way up under the dash near the floor, after removing that just pull it back and toward the inside slightly and it will pop off.

Do you recommend this trailer brake control switch? Does it work well for your needs? How heavy is your trailer?

I’ve been pleased with it. My camper is about 3000 lbs. dry and close to 4000 lbs. loaded.

In case you have trouble finding the Brake Controller Wire Connector. I did a little crappy youtube video.

I like the way the controller looks like it could be stock. Think I will have to pull the trigger on the red arc.

I wish I had joined the forum before I had mine installed. The unit my regular Toyota shop installed is kind of cheesy, the slides vibrate out of place and the controls are hard to see. Plus I keep busting my knee on it as I enter and exit the drivers seat. Next time I will opt for the Red Arc

Thanks for the information on the RedArc. I'm going back and forth between this and a more standard controller. Sounds like setup is pretty easy. Do you know if there is a way to activate the trailer brake by itself (without using truck brakes)? This is a really nice feature on most brake controllers that allow you to slow the trailer independently if it starts to sway.

I already miss the very nice built in brake controller on my old Ram and haven't even towed yet. That and the heated steering wheel are about the only things I miss about the Ram though.
