I have the 5 speed with mine and have had no issue towing a 2000 lbs camper and a bed full of camping gear. 4 cylinder does fine towing but plan on running the motor at higher revs so you stay in the power band3CF7941F-DE3C-4F39-844C-E370FA309690.jpg

the 4 doesnt have as much torque in its power band

    y e t

its gets to the sweet spot quicker................

i4 kept in the sweet spot will aquit itself well

most err on the side of rompin stompin HP !!

the most powerful bang in the cylinders inside a good running engine takes place at ' Peak Torque '
if the engine is running Right
    breathing free
    firing strong
    NO issues

if at or near Peak Torque ' it aint runnin good /right .................park it

    good luck

Glad to see this thread. I own 2 2x4 Tacomas. 1st is a 2012 auto 4 cly w/ a factory hitch/tow package(I think?), 60K. Owned since 30K, so knows it's history more. Got beat up from buying it too early in building my house. So some what my beater now. 2nd is 2015 auto 4 cly w/ cruise(as my RT knee started acting up long distance) & a topper, 70K. I looked at the 2012's hitch, & it has hooks over the top of the frame. So looks like can't take it off without taking bumper off, to slid out. Does that mean it's factory? What else might tell me, I have the package? I like to tow a Casita 16' 2200#, if I can find one. I have towed 5000+# with Ford's smallest V8, & straight 6, 1300 miles trips. So understand babying.

Why not leave that hitch on that truck and just buy a bolt on hitch for around $100-125?

Thanks what I'm looking for. I have a 6x12' trailer (rolling storage) I guess I'll test the 2012 with. To see if it will work/worth setting the 2015 up(trans cooler too). Until I can find a sweet 2013=2015 6 cyl 2x4(rare, I lived in New England 30 yrs without 4x4). I keep my vehicles for 10+ yrs.
