I heard that if you have the 4:10 gears from Toyota if you were to run a bigger tire you would get better mpg. Only with the 4:10s. That is what I have on 31s. Anyone think it’s true?

Taller gears IE 2.90 3.10 3.73 and such will net you better gas mileage because you'll be at a lower rpm at higher speeds

Shorter gears IE 4.10 4.25 5.29 and such will net you worse gas mileage because you'll be at a higher rpm at the same speeds as above

People do change out their gears though when going with much larger tires; 31s are real close to stock so it doesn't matter

I have 4.56 gears and got a little better mpg highway after my 32’s. But city is worse.

I have 33's and only lost 1/2 an mpg going from 4.10 to 4.88 after the break in.

I think once you get past the math it comes down to how you use and drive the truck

Using cruise control as much as possible really helps, even on shorter lengths of road. I lose about 2-3 mpg during the winter when I can't use cruise.
