If you're concerned with road salt look at a product like Steel-it. That'll allow you to do touch ups every couple of years and keep the metal protected.

thats the reason i chose bare metal but i like the thickness of powder coating but i think the steel it route is going to be it... i just need to figure out what a good primer that possibly has a rust prevention built into it. plus im going to get the rattle cans from SDHQ which is a 10 can pack for $300 so essentially the price of powder coating... i just hope it keeps this bumper rust free for as long as possible.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Re coat every few years is about the only way and touch up's anytime you see any rust. If your concerned with rust I suggest getting it coated locally or rattle can because it's going to rust in the salt belt no matter what. Our powder can be repaired but you have to stay up with maintaining it. Like any coating De-lamination can occur once moisture works its way under the coating and rust starts to form. Common causes are part edges and connection points where the moisture can work it's way in first.

99.999% of the customers that come back to us with rust problems are one well out of the warranty. And with rust that is well beyond what should be a "touch up"

You did miss a post #484, the pins were too close to the tail gate on the 3rd gen with the other arms.

great feedback Jerry, I think I’ll stick to having you send mine raw and I’ll give the steel it a shot. Then I can grind away and touch up when needed verses having to get re powdered every time

If you rubberized undercoat the inside of the bumper, that takes the most abuse from the road it will help protect the powder. I did this on my previous bumper and it held up great in CO for 2 years before i switched to this

Yes, just on the inside. It seems to hold up very well. It's an extra step, just mask it off and take your time.

this looks great! I think I’m going to go the steel it route still and then se this over the steel it on the inside portion. Hopefully I can give some good feedback for everyone and see how well it holds up

Try to get to a car wash after the roads dry. Use any spray on rust converter/preventer. From what I've heard, rubberized coatings can trap moisture. You can coat the entire underside of your truck with something like Fluidfilm, or POR15. These types of products are renowned for their protection capabilities. Look on YouTube for videos. There are as many as you want to watch. Honestly, nothing will "stop" rust but honestly, you're talking about surface rust on metal that's pretty robust and honestly you've got more to worry about your frame than these, or any bumpers, sliders, or skid plates.

Yea, that's not normal. Something went wrong with that. I mean salt is corrosive, yes, but that's extreme. I live in Maryland, and if someone says snow two states over, they salt the roads. To make matters worse, they use that brine shit here. From what I hear, that's worse.

I've had the same Smittybuilt Beaver Tail recovery device on my Tundra, my 4Runner and both of my Tacoma's. That's 8 winters. It's dull, but not one bit of rust.

I'd still say, do your best to keep it clean as possible in the winter, and add a coating like Fluidfilm in the beginning of winter.

That’s why I’m trying to decide on powder coating and fluid film for protection or steel it and just touch up when needed. One has the thickness and the other has the salt protection so it’s hard to decide. Plus I haven’t seen a lot of testimonials of steel it with heavy salt...

Bahahaha you don't know salt. I grew up in Up-Upstate New York and Maryland is nothing compared to up there.

Where are you from @Danactive? I grew up in the Lake George area and I've seen that type of damage done to a lot of bumpers up there.
