I I’m gonna need to pick up a 1967 mustang fastback from my in-laws in Florida about 430 miles from my home in north Georgia. I’ve got the 05 v6 with all the towing goodies factory 6500lb tow rating with a fresh trans service at 100k miles. Plan to rent a U-haul car hauler and (not the dolly).the car is roughly 2800lbs not sure about the trailer weight.here’s my concern.i went to look at there trailer as I was thinking I could Put my distribution hitch on the trailer but with the surge hydrolic cylinder the tongue is to long and I can’t use it.Im nervous to attempt it without the load distribution help.Would I be better off to borrow my brothers 2001 f-150 4x4 with the 5.4 v8? Give me your opinion on the situation please

 

Straight towing capacity is rarely the limiting factor on Tacomas. Without a WDH, I'd guess you'll have payload & GAWR issues. Without the WDH, your rear axle is taking the majority of the weight & you could be exceeding GAWR which you can find on the sticker in your door. It's not a long trip but you'll be dragging ass, I'd probably borrow the Ford.

 

Regarding U-Haul, If you tow with the Taco don't tell them you are towing a Mustang as they will likely calc that your truck can't handle the weight and deny you a rental.

 

Just send me the title or bill of sale and i will run down to Florida and pick it up for you. Trust me..... LOL

 

I would use the Ford.

 

Uhaul auto transports weigh ~2200 lbs all by themselves, so you're right at 5000lbs. If you take care and load it with an appropriate amount of weight on the hitch (10% of the total trailer weight - so 500-600 lbs) and don't carry a bunch of extra crap in the truck, I think you'll be fine. Just take it easy - everything takes longer with a trailer.

 

Fly down, Drive the Mustang back! Your Taco is not gonna like that setup!

 

I agree, fly down and drive that bad stang home.

 

Probably be better off driving the taco down and tow it home with the mustang.
