I was looking to add the OEM roof Rack to my 2016 Double Cab with the possibility of adding a basket later and ran into a snag. When I looked up the part number for the rack on 2016s (PT27835140) https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_2016_Tacoma/Roof-Rack---Double-Cab/69523298/PT27835140.html

Its says its no longer sold and has been replaced by PT27835170, https://parts.toyota.com/p/toyota_2016_tacoma/Roof-Rack---Double-CAB/70290669/PT27835170.html

But this says it doesn't fit/can't confirm fit for the 2016s. Does anyone have any reason why one wouldn't fit the other? Is the Shark fin in a different location or something? Anyone have the newer one on a 2016 double cab?

The 2020 shark fin was moved impeding the function of the OEM roof rack
19 and below it sat further back allowing clearance for it.

Everything I read has said it fits 2017 and newer. It sounds like something changed between 16 and 17 but I have no idea what that could be.

If it fits 2017+ could the new part # be a rack with the rear cross bar moved forward so it clears the shark fin? Parts guys? Engineers? This would be pretty good news.

There is no difference in racks between 2016-2019.
