So I did do a search for this topic and came up with nothing, so if one exists this site needs better search tools...

I just got a 2020 Tacoma OR Prem w/advance tech that came with factory roof rack, they would not work correctly (the back could not latch as the shark fin was in the way) so I went back to my dealer and advised them of this.

They checked 3 other 2020's on the lot and all are the same, they are getting a hold of Toyota and seeing what the fix is and I am waiting for them to update me.

My dealer is pretty awesome and stated if Toyota cannot come up with a solution they would but they wanted to see what Toyota will do first.

I will update this post as I get more information.. if anyone else is having this issue or has more info please let me know.

The 2020 Shark fin was moved forward on the cab by at least an inch which prevents the bars from sitting down and locking into place.. if you even tried you would break the shark fin.

You can easily see how much further forward the shark fin was moved by looking at the 2019 vs 2020 which the lot still had both, they were not aware of it till I pointed it out to them.

I am not worried, Toyota or the dealer will get a fix/solution. Just others might want to know also... anyone with a 2020 that has or was thinking of getting the factory rack. Mine was thrown in for free, did not want it so the dealer took it off the price.

You paid enough that I am sure a 50 dollar roof rack is nothing.;)

    Oooops, that's an oversight.
No more roof racks on 2020s, I can't wait for the deals, I want one for my 19 :D

I would have never guessed that thread was about the roof rack as it shows speakers ;) But I did scroll down. At least this thread has the specific issue in the title.

I would never have seen is also but I remember reading about it a couple weeks ago and thought the poster had a solution from Toyota, but after reading it again, they only mentioned it, no real solution.

I also have a 2020 with the OEM rack issue. Would like to know what fix they offer you.

Just to clarify- the crossbars are the issue right? If so, you could always remove them and use something like a Yakima railgrab mount that will sit Yakima crossbars higher than the OEM’s. Link has an example.

If I had to do it again I would skip the OEM rack. The spacing is an odd size and too wide for some accessories. I had to add an extension to our Yakima basket, but still cut the basket down 1-1/2" so it would fit the rack. Our cargo box won't fit either because the bars are too far apart. I think the bike racks would fit, but it's fairly tall to load bikes. I guess it would be a decent kayak carrier, but in general I'm disappointed with the rack. We have a similar styled factory rack on our Subaru Outback and it's much nicer quality and more usable.

Oh I completely agree, was thinking of going with something different.. HOWEVER with that said, it is factory installed and whether on paper I got it for free or not, I paid for it in the long term so I want it to work correctly :)

There’s a pic in a similar thread but it’s hard to see the gap. Some Toyota employee isn’t getting her / his bonus this year, because the OEM rack fitment is one of the first things that comes to mind when you consider moving the antennae fin forward.

My guess is they moved it forward on account of the third brake light leak and or shark fin leak after using a auto carwash. Move it forward to increase possibility of structural integrity of the roof and seals.

Maybe someone that does the brake light upgrade (MESO, etc.) can snap a picture to show the difference...? They’ve reworked the sheet metal, so maybe there’s more going on underneath too.

Ok, got an update from my dealership today. The regional Toyota did not know about it, it is unclear if Toyota Corp knew about it or not, HOWEVER apparently 2020's with roof racks were not supposed to leave the ports yet (Apparently it is not Toyota Factory doing the roof rack installs but the Port prior to dealership... I have no idea what that means but sounds like where all the trucks go before heading to individual dealerships).

The services manager said there should be a TSB on it in a few weeks. He will contact me when one is released and gets the new part. They are redesigning the Shark Fin.
