Door Ding Prevention

Just picked up my 2nd door ding. On the driver side, naturally. I have sliders so cars aren’t the suspects, rather trucks. I do attempt to park away from people. Any recommendations on body armor? Old 4Runners had stick on vinyl strips that didn’t age well.

Its a ugly solution thats easy to steal and a pain to put on, but it works.

 

Thanks SnaHalf. I’m thinking more like a LineX strip. In Quicksand. Or the OEM paint at the bottom of the body which may give a little more resistance. Body shop quote was like $180@.

You could start parking straddling a line and take 2 spaces....or start parking in the back 40.

Parking in the back 40 is a solution though.

 

Thats what I do. I usually park next to those curbs so I'm pretty much right on the edge. Doing that gives me about 12ish inches of room between the next line.

Ha I do this all the time! much to the annoyance of my passengers as I pass open spots to find one of these. I just feel like the long term benefit to my truck of finding one of these spots outlasts the downside of having to walk farther, if you even consider that a downside.

 

I have had good results with “paintless dent removal”.

 

Mobile or stand alone PDR shops are usually cheaper than body shops.

 

I'm surprised I have yet to get a door ding in 2.5yrs. I do exactly as above, sometimes have to park up front.

 

My truck is 10 years old and doesnt have a single scratch or dent on it. When I bought it, it had one door ding that a local paintless dent guy fixed. Today, i couldn't tell you where the dent was. It is 100% gone and I dont remember where it even was. I have sliders, and color matched door moldings. The molding sticks out slightly, and would get hit first, if anything managed to get past the sliders. I always park far away from stores and walk the extra few mins. Also, if you are trying to keep it looking nice for the long haul, collinite insulator wax is the toughest wax i have found, and it seems to protect from minor scratches.

 

I do the exact opposite. If you're looking at, i.e., facing all of the parking spaces, I park to the furthest parking space on the right.

What I'm trying to end up with, if anyone parks next to me, is the passenger door of the other vehicle next to me...and NOT the driver door.

In most instances, people are likely driving alone so if the passenger door ends up next to me and they're not carrying a passenger...I don't get door dinged!

Exactly how I park everywhere. Always back of the lot. Saves gas/miles and gives me exercise. Never a ding. I've got sliders that stick out 3 inches.

These are the doors that scare me... A lot of companies do this garbage shape with the rear doors. So the sliders wont help at all.

it amazes me taking all the precautions, yet, someone will will ding your door. We parked away from the establishment to go shopping, where no vehicles are with a lot of open spaces, then find one parked right next to us and finding out having a "tiny" door ding. And in this area, taking up 2 parking spaces = a possible key job! lol

You need to park more than a doors length away from a neighboring vehicle, on a windy day or worse yet having an uncaring one swing open the door... .

Yeah, whenever and wherever you park...try to park so that any vehicle that might park next to you will most likely park with their passenger door next to your truck!

Thanks guys. Guess I have to revert to my new car days and park a mile away from the entrance. The color moldings was what I was trying to think of. Actually this car has taken very little abuse compared to my Highlander. It got door dings galore at Home Depot/ Lowe’s. Guess the “contractors “ didn’t like my poseur truck.
