Just bought a 2000 5-lug and I'm looking to move up to 15" steel wheels. My question is about stock tire size. It seems Toyota moved up over an inch in overall stock diameter between '00 and '01. Did anything else change or should I feel comfortable just throw the stock wheel and tire size from an '01 on my 2000? I guess I'm surprised Toyota would make this change without changes to gearing or engine size. Maybe I'm missing something?

    96-00 stock tire: 215-70-14
    01-04 stock tire: 205-75-15

I'm intending to get these wheels:

    Thanks!

Those two tire sizes are minute in the differences... shouldnt make any kind of noticeable difference.

I went from a 14" rim to 15's and had no change in anything noticable.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a little gun shy on this since I live in a hilly/mountainous part of the country and have learned from driving an under powered VW van how much tire diameter increases can effect things. It's an inch increase in diameter (5% about), but I'm new to Tacoma ownership so like you say, it may be inconsequential for the truck to handle. It is much lighter and with about twice the horsepower my VW has! Not to mention Toyota probably knew what it was doing when it made the jump in size in 2001 and beyond.

I know this is an old thread but hopefully you guys can help me out. I have a 96 5lug. Lifted it and had 235/75/15s on for a number of years. Currently in the process of returning the truck to stock, since I don't take it off road anymore. Cant find any good 14in rims so I will probably keep my 15x7in rims. With stock suspension, will 215/70/15 fit without rubbing/bumping/scraping ? Should I go smaller ?

forgot to add in case it makes a difference...my current 15x7 rims have 3.76 backspacing, -6 offset
