Hah! I was just getting up from the computer to head on down to dealer to get the gaskets when I saw your post come in. Great minds think alike :) Thanks for the feedback. For years my father used nothing but Valvoline products in all his vehicles - motor oil, MT and AT trans fluids and gear fluids so I feel comfortable using Valvoline products.

    Synchromesh is very light.
Like the ATF that goes in some domestic manual transmissions.
    Toyota calls for GL4.
GL5 is not recommended for a good reason.
I'd use Redline, or some other brand of GL4.
    Why risk synchronized damage?
    Just being stubborn?
    GL4 is available.
    Just harder to find.

after reading other threads and finding a good deal on a gallon, it turns out we're going with RedLine MT-90. I had an online chat with Valvoline customer service and they stated their syncro fluid is fully compatible for the Tacoma MT, is GL-4 rated and the viscosity is in the 75W-85 range. Why they don't put that on the labeling is a question. Bob the Oil guy has a good thread on this and other MTF's. Based on his analysis and the Valvoline PI sheet that shows this as an 8.8 cSt at 100C it's more like a 75W-80 viscosity.

Also, the RedLine is synthetic and the Valvoline is conventional.

Another vote for redline MT-90. Buy the gallon off Amazon and get the screw on pump made by slippery pete and you’re in business.

The Redline has about 120 miles on it now.
I'm happy with what I've seen

Try going to an import parts store. I have to drive an hour away to get oil for a change because not even the dealer sells the oil my car needs

the quotes from users are pretty funny "... made from unicorn tears". The label states manufactured in Germany. A couple of the big German petroleum manufactures are Ravenol or Pentosin. It could be one of theirs.
