wondering about sliders / step bars
new to the whole Tacoma thing....getting my first next month a new TRD Off Road Cement - Premium. Question i have is boards / steps...i am not going to be heavy into backroads, some camping a few fields here are there. Thinking i want steps just to protect the rockers...thoughts?

Sounds like you are probably fine with side steps.

However I like the look of the rock rails better

I do not have steps, but I think that they bolt to the body, therefore, they do not really protect. I was going to get steps, but I saw a guy get his removed by a rock he was going over. The rock got wedged in between both steps, tore up his underbody.

Steps are not protection, they are only steps.

As @Ncpi007 stated, they will end up doing more damage to your rig if you get caught on something.

Sliders are protection, you can rest the entire weight of the rig on them. Jack the truck on them. Bash the shit out of them. Probably not what you need though.

Mine have paid for themselves over and over and over.

You can use them for so many things since they are solid and bolted to the frame. Like fixing a leaky rim.
