Posted in another thread but should have probably posted here. My 2012 needs a new frame. Is there anything I should be aware of while it is undergoing the replacement?

You should be able to get other still fixed/replaced with free/reduced labor costs. Shocks, exhaust, water pump, etc. You shouldn't have to buy parts from the dealer, find deals online or get lightly used.

Thanks, I will look into some of those parts. Any others that are typically good to replace? I am guessing they put the same flat leaf springs back in.

I had already had the leaf sling recall done so they put those back in. Some people had both recalls done together.
The dealer I worked with was pretty good about giving me a 'suggestions' list once thy where pulling the tuck apart. Some stuff I did, some i didn't depending on cost and importance. Consider your mileage and what would not be surprising to wear out soon, the more difficult/expensive it is to do later the more reason to take care of it now.

It wasnt eligble for the spring recall so it has the original. It has the 6112s upfront and the 5160s on the rear. The 5160s got really rusted even trying to keep them clean and polished so i may swap them.

Dropped off my truck for frame replacement yesterday. Waiting to hear how it’s going. Meanwhile they rented me a Dodge Ram Hemi V8. ;)

If Toyota used more then a calk tube worth of frame treatment when I had mine done, I'll sell mine for a quarter. I could do a better job with 1/2 can of LPS3 or Fluid Film. And I VERY seriously doubt they actually washed it either.

Sad to say, typical low quality Toyota warranty type work. I asked the dealer [service writer] multiple times if mine fell under the actual full frame treatment or the minor one that basically pops a few caps on and dribbles a little actual sealant on the frame [because I wasn't going to waste my time or a days vacation for the partial one] and was told several times it was the full treatment.

Liars. At first I couldn't even tell they did anything there wasn't more then a few little beads of the stuff to be seen.

Had mine done about 2 weeks ago. They definitely do not clean the whole frame but service documents say clean and dry frame. I too only saw white goop and some new plugs. Didn’t see any goop in the back half of the frame. Just front half.

The CRC coating probably doesn't work or makes things worse. My CRC was done in the winter and I highly doubt they properly prepped it or spray in the correct temperature range. My guess is the white goop probably does nothing, doesn't make things worse and a lot cheaper to apply.

Man, I hope someone can help me. I just stumbled across this post while digging for advice on what to do about the extensive rust I just discovered on my 2007 Taco. I'm the second owner, bought it from a Toyota dealer in PA in 2013. Looks like my truck is a 100% match to what all the class action claims were about, but since I'm not the original owner and this isn't a recall, the letter from Toyota never got to me. My local dealer told me it's too late for me to qualify for the enhanced warranty program. I called Toyota USA and got a similar answer. I put on my best humble/devastated voice and asked if there was any way to get some forgiveness on this, and was told I'd get a call back from someone else in a day or so.

Any suggestions on how to find a sympathetic voice at Toyota who can stretch the term out a bit for me? The truck is paid for, and I don't really have the money or time to replace it right now, and I depend on the truck pretty heavily right now to operate my farm...

I believe (and will be corrected if wrong) that your window closed last year. It's 12 years from first use and had to have had the CRC spray done. Ownership doesn't matter (I'm the second owner and have a new frame). You could try to argue but it's an uphill battle.

You need to look for a replacement vehicle on your own. That frame is a safety issue.

    Yep.
Wow. Thought my '05 was bad... please don't drive that off the farm.

Unfortunately, Toyota Corp is not going to help you. I missed my deadline by a month and they told me to pound sand.

If you think the rest of the truck is salvageable, keep an eye out for a frame on CL. That cancer has run deep though, you may have to cut your losses. Sorry man.

I hope you don't get rear-ended (like I did this morning). If I had your frame it would have folded in half and the truck would have been totaled...

Hey guys, I was trying to find a thread on this topic and I'm new to the forum. But I just got my 2012 Tacoma back from the dealership after they put this "spray/coating/magic potion" on the frame to treat it. BUT when I looked underneath its a bunch of white pasty goo that is smeared all over the place... So much that it drips in the driveway and looks sprayed up in my suspension joints. Is that normal? 20200716_163425.jpg 20200716_163432.jpg 20200720_195607.jpg

Yes, Typical dealer application, some do a good job some don’t. Either way it won’t hurt anything.

Looks like you have plenty of mayo for BLT's this summer.

The dealer who did mine looked like he used about one caulk tube full on the entire frame, twas a total waste of my time, gas and mileage as far as I'm concerned. I've used more caulk in bathtubs in the past.

Haha yeah I hear ya! Depending on how well this stuff works might rather use mayo! Good to know my truck isn't the only one out there getting this white paste.
