Also recommend Blackvue DRS750. I have it powered by the adapter that plugs into the OBDII port. I can give you some more details on that if you're interested.

Stock AF. My 68 Bronco and 2000 2.5RS get the mods.
I picked up a viofo a129 pro duo with the parking mode harness. I've had it for like 2 months but I'm finally installing it today. I've had enough incidents lately to warrant spending the money but I've never had one and didn't know where to start. It seemed that the viofo is a solid beginner option and the Blackvue is the "good one." 4k/30fps for $170 seemed very appetizing to start playing with a dash cam, then I talked myself into the rear cam (1080/30fps) too. Two cameras, parking mode power harness and 128gb micro SD card and i'm right under $300.

On the commute home Thursday, I saw the left rear wheel come loose on a Tundra at 70mph... I was in the equivalent of his left side blind spot. I have no clue how the wheel stayed on while they got it to the shoulder and stopped. Came home and set up the cams, formatted the card, setup the app and wifi, etc. In a few minutes, in the taco they go.

Edit: I figured that if I liked the viofo but wanted to upgrade, I'd get the blackvue and give my wife the viofo. We'll see.

How long have you been using that? It has pretty mixed reviews on Amazon. The OBDII adaptor.

Since roughly January. I've had zero issues with it and love it. It has dip switches to set time before shutoff and battery voltage cut-off.

No doubt that Blackview is the way to go if you can spring for that kind of money. However, if you're looking for something more budget friendly to achieve most of the same features, look at Rexing. I put in their front/rear version and have had in my rig for almost a year and a half now. It records speed, auto saves "bump" events, can be hooked up to the fuse box for 24/7 recording, and rewrites over old data. Look in my build thread's first post for it.

Rexing was my first dashcam, absolutely worst experience with it.
It would overheat and stop recording, sometimes would not even start up unless I started it manually, then its internal battery gave out and would turn off even when plugged in...

Missed the recording of a guy coming down a hill too fast and crashIng...

Rexing contacted me because I have a negative review, and they requested for a 5 star review in exchange for a full refund.

Gave them a 4 instead (They agreed) for reaching out and giving me a refund.

Bought and installed this one a few months ago and I've been very happy with it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SRQH4R7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Watched a lot of reviews and it was consistently ranked at or near the top of the moderately priced cameras. Using the Dongar adapter from the mirror makes for an easy, clean install.

I will tell you what not to buy......Thinkware U1000. Beautiful camera, records high quality vids, but good luck getting the cloud storage feature to work. Getting video's off the device is a PITA. You are supposed to easily watch them on your phone in the vehicle......good luck.

I had a Garmin 66w, and it worked flawlessly, even in the heat. I still have a 55w and 35 in my other two vehicles.

I installed a DDPAI Mini3 by recommendation of a friend and am really happy with the quality. It does not have a battery but rather a capacitor. Also has a constant hot and switched hot so comes on immediately when the truck is started, but also takes snapshots if the truck is bumped while parked. Had it for nearly a year without a glitch and won't break the bank. Plug into pc with USB and download videos and snapshots. Pretty simple to use with the phone app.

I had a gaming mini but it gave me troubles. They ended up sending me a different model and I haven’t had any issues. That being said, it was a little pricy.

if you want something cheap, ive had this in my car for over year with no issues. i park outdoors in texas sun and heat for 8hrs a day at work. i cant imagine spending $300 on a dash cam when the one i bought for $50 that works flawlessly. with the companion app, i can download the videos to my phone over built in wi-fi which is super convenient.

I have a Blueskysea mini 0906. 1080p front with seperate 1080p rear camera. The front camera/storage unit is takes up slightly more windshield real estate than the small EZ Pass toll readers so it's easily hidden behind the rear view mirror if you put it on the passenger side. Rear camera is slightly bigger than a quarter.

GPS can be turned on or off
Audio can be turned on and off

It has front and rear parking lot/driveway motion activation if you grab the wiring kit to hardwire it into the vehicle for power instead of using the accessory plug. The wiring kit has a low vehicle battery voltage cutoff so it won't drain the battery. I got the kit but haven't had a chance to wire it in.
