How Reliable Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade?

The 2016 Renegade has an awful reliability rating of two out of five from J.D. Power. That's the lowest rating a car can receive, and it's the lowest rating in the class.

I would personally only get subaru if they live in am area that gets lots of snow, they have an awesome AWD system. Subarus tend to need lots of engine related repairs, and usually a head gasket at 100k, but still WAY better than jeep

    This.
Its a fiat diguised as a jeep. I would avoid it. My mother thought they were cute, I steered her away from that and she ended up with a suburu forester and is very happy with it.

I vote Rav4. Try to stay away from cvt trans in the smaller vehicles, they will be a source of problems sooner or later. Anything based on a Fiat will give nothing but troubles.

I had a 90 Legacy sedan years ago. I got used from our mechanic then. 140k on it with reworked heads and new water pump. That thing lasted me over 5 years some of it doing delivery work. Traded it at 220k.
Had a 2003 outback and that was decent too.
I'd definitely recommend Subaru over anything FCA. Why do you think I'm buying a Taco now?

Without knowing the reliability of either, for just a little bit more money for a noticeable ammount of more room I would also suggest the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Yeah, it's not a Grand Cherokee but it still seems to tick all the boxes the renegade does, just with a more rounded profile instead of trying to look like a boxy wrangler knockoff. The extra legroom might be a winning factor depending on how tall your daughter and her friends are. The shorter wheelbase of the renegade gives it a slightly better offroad profile but it's pretty close.

I wouldn't buy a Jeep or any FCA product. The Wrangler and Gladiator are the only Jeeps worth considering due to their off road capability and resale but get an extended warranty as you will need it. My last two vehicles were a Chrysler 300C and a Jeep Wrangler and they both had problems. Finally wised up and switched to Toyota......

My wife had a Jeep Liberty, and based on that, we now have a no Jeep rule. That was pre Fiat, and as others have mentioned, Fiat platforms don’t add and positive marks.

I traded in a Renegade Trailhawk on my Tacoma. I really didn't have too many complaints on the Renegade besides being to small and very little power. It was great off road and in snowy weather. If I had too I would buy one again, my daughter also wants one when she can drive. Here's a pic of me just goofing off in the snow.

Had a roommate with one, he had 2 wheel bearings, driver front and passenger rear, go out at the same time. I've never heard of anything like that before or since. He later traded it after something with the suspension broke. It never saw anything offroad minus gravel driveways lol

As someone who has owned several Jeeps (2 WJ's and a JKUS) and just within the past month and a half bought my first Toyota vehicle, stay FAR away unless you love dumping your money into a bottomless pit. They are, BY FAR, the most unreliable vehicles I have ever owned. Seemed like every time I drove them something would break. They have HORRID transmissions (if you think the 3rd gen Tacoma transmissions are weird, you haven't seen anything until you drive a Jeep; banging into gear, slipping, torque converter shudder that feels like you are driving on rumble strips, etc...) and the wiring harnesses have soy-based insulation on them that rodents LOVE to eat, leading to electrical issues.

As for the renegade specifically, it is just a Fiat 500 with 4wd and a different body. Fiat is horribly unreliable. Most of the online reviews are of new vehicles that don't yet have the myriad of issues that pop up in Chrysler/Fiat vehicles after 40,000 miles or so. They are designed to only last as long as the warranty these days, and very soon after the warranty expires, everything on them tends to quickly fall apart, leaving you with very expensive repair bills.

Id stay far away from it.

I learned my lesson with Chrysler products with my first vehicle, a Dodge truck. That was long before they got in bed with Fiat...lol Never again!

I loved jeeps up until the whole crystler fiat fiasco.
I have a co worker that had one and one day without reason just burned up over night.
Her mechanic as well as.the jeep dealership had no clue why.
It had less than 30k miles on it.
Sadly those and 2-3 other jeep model now are all fiat cars with a jeep body. Imho i would stay away.
If they brought back the 4.0 straight 6 engine "not at all likely" different story those were bulletproof.
My father had one with the exception of regular maintenance hit over 300k until some idiot running from the cops came around the corner too fast and hit the driver side rear while it was parked in front of.our house.
They don't make them like that anymore.
