Was thinking of going out camping this weekend, but everywhere I’ve camped before East of the 5 looks like it’s going to be really hot. Was wondering if anyone had recs of camping spots within 2-3 hours of San Diego that won’t be crazy hot this weekend and won’t be too crowded. Was considering big bear, but wasn’t sure what the crowd is like there on the weekend. Off road trail to get there/ nearby would be a plus. Thank you!

Yeah I’ve noticed the same thing in the spring, that’s my concern.

I believe they are. Good luck and try to enjoy.
Headed to arrowhead this weekend myself. Rented a cabin and not gonna look at trails. Just a couple of hikes with the family, but sure to be a shit show out there no matter where we go.

Well I go up to big bear Tuesdays for work and I'm there early like around 4 or 5am and when I'm leaving there around 8, all the hiking trails are packed, where idiots are parking there cars out onto the street.

The weekends are worse now because of covid and literally all the times I've camped up there before and even during this covid mess I easily scored as my "secret" spots were always vacant.

The last weekend I camped (two weekends ago) everyone and their moms were there, not just 4x4 but tons of regular econo box sedans flooded the valley. I like im sure most people, camp to get away, this was like camping in your front lawn and with having all your neighbors doing the same. The mosquitoes were horrible as well and I forgot to take the backway down so the signal light near the bottom of the mountain causes an hr traffic delay

Damn. Staying away from bear. Went to Blair valley last night and was really nice. Hardly anybody there and temperature was really nice at night.
