On 7/26/20 I drove 2 people involved in a roll over out of the coral canyon loop and back to 4 corners. At the time I was more focused on getting the pair back evaced back to their friends and getting them some food and water since they had been stranded for a few hours. In retrospect I would really appreciate some picks of the rolled jeep ( didnt want to turn their need for help into a photo op). dude is probably not a member here, but if you have a friend who rolled his white jeep in san diego this weekend can you share some pics? I was the guy in the 2wd green tacoma

Always warms my heart when I have to save a Jeep.

the main coral canyon loop i believe. not sure what the official name is but the one that starts south of 4 corners and "ends" and the camp ground. Jeep looked pretty thrashed. Smashed windows, tires, front suspensions through the hood. bent axel. but luckily no major injuries to humans.
note to self to restock my med kit.
    musta been some where near

Good on you for helping out. They were already having a craptastic day.

Last week I went to another state to rescue a friend that was stranded. Some people in a Tacoma stopped and helped out as much as they could.

Good on you helping , that was awesome

Back in 90's I was with my Jeep club "San Diego 4 wheelers when we found an elderly man that became disoriented and lost there for 3 days

Corral canyon is fun , this was 20yrs ago in my jeep

I hope they were not trying to climb the "Sidewinder" trail in a stock jeep . That trail needs lockers front / rear , good ground clearance , a winch and good spotter

Often, we will climb up on a very small obstacle, park and do a primal yell...."RUUUUUBBBBIIIICCCCCOOOOONNN!!!!

That bit me in the ass once though....

I used to tease stock Jeep owners when they were struggling on a rocky section of trail .I would tell them what a real Jeep can do , I'd put in 1rst gear and show them what 128:1 low range gearing and lockers can do plus i like to show off LOL !!!!!

It’s not that hard, you can get through with 4wd and some skills. There’s some pics of a stock Sport that went through not long ago.

I’m always curious as to what insurance companies make of an off-road rollover/accident. I feel like they would try their best not to cover it due to it not being on the highway.

From what I've seen it just all depends on the scenario and the company. There was a local guy who hydrolocked his engine and had a foot of water resting in the truck for about 24 hours. Was honest with insurance and because he wasn't in a competition, and only doing it recreationally, they covered it completely.

Depends on the wording of the policy, but fire roads are public roads so you’d need to have a really shitty policy to not be covered. When my truck fell over it was covered even though I was in a private park, but my only restrictions were no racing and no ridesharing.

I just dealt with this recently myself. Was out in Ocotillo at one of the trails, took a pretty tough trail and did a hefty amount of damage. Was honest about what happened, insurance adjuster turned out to be an offroader too, and ended up getting it all covered after the deductible.

How fortunate was that? You got really lucky, but I'm curious as to what the two of you talked about as to how it happened. Was the adjuster familiar with the area you took the damage in?

Honestly was very fortunate and lucky with how it turned out. He was familiar with Ocotillo, but not the specific trail i was on.

    Basic summary:
-issues were my battery wasn't properly tied down (had no knowledge of this since i took the truck last October), slid around and broke trans fluid line at end of trail, made it home before realizing how bad it was and trans gave out right as i pulled in the driveway. also hit a rock coming over a ridge on my LCA, bent back a bit
-told him straight up I was offroading, battery issue was most definitely exacerbated by the trail, and LCA was directly caused by it
-he coordinated with shop for pictures and details on everything, said he'd see what he can do
-after assessment, determined insurance would need to cover ANY damage on the truck, since i couldn't prove some stuff didn't happen outside the trail/this instance. this includes any and all scrapes, door dings, dented rear bumper, etc
-was a long ordeal of trying to determine whether my truck would be totaled or not, assessing the truck's value
-came to find out my truck was valued at $27k by insurance, and the repairs were less than 65% of cost, so it wasn't totaled
-he then asked if the shop I was using was a good offroad shop and if I'd recommend them for an offroad built vehicle

IDK how much of that was purely due to insurance willing to cover it, vs him finagling stuff for me, but he was very friendly and helpful about it, and didn't seem to think that just the simple fact of being offroad was enough to invalidate an insurance claim.

That being said, a close buddy of mine who is an adjuster from a diff company said he prob would have thrown it out right away. So it's possible I just got really lucky.
