Ill stick with what I have been doing over the years.
My Galaxie still shines like it did in 1997 when I had it painted.
My 17 Tacoma and 13 Sienna still look great in spite of Ohio winters.
I have seen comments that the paint today is better than in the past.
    Ill just snicker at that.
Go with what works for you

No one said the paint is better, just that the application/process (especially a brand new car from the factory vs. body shop paint job), paint itself has changed and there is no need to wait months for it to cure before correcting it or coating it. By far the paint is "thinner" on today's vehicles but also does not require the same cure time that paints of before did, which arguably means you should protect it sooner than later, and just as paint technology has evolved so has coatings.

Again no one said anything to you not knowing anything, but that response sure speaks a lot, assumptive, pure opinion based, not open to change or the fact things may just have improved/new technologies and processes in paint and paint maintenance/protection (weird how that works)...but hey I'm young and have worked on and detailed cars since high school along side my old parents and grandparents, but "what do I know?"...

Point is, OP wants to know best way to protect his vehicle and if he should avoid washing / claying / coating right away, just because "I've always done it this way" is what works for you does not make it a valid argument and there is no reason with today's paints and processes to delay correcting and protecting it or to not consider a ceramic or nano coating over traditional wax which has proven to provide better protection and ease of maintenance.

OP defiantly do what Stash419 suggests. I use this combo below. In the pics of the truck it hasn't been washed in 4-5 weeks. The truck has been driven daily and in the last week it has rained almost every day. Never seen to products work so well together to keep something clean.

Luck has it when I got there it was still in the detail bay. Still was being dried with compressed air. I seen no automatic wash equipment looks like they used hand wash or a pressure washer maybe. The paint actually feels good.

Go ahead with clay bar and paint protection of choice. Paint in the factory is baked at a higher temp than in a repair shop. Good to go.

wash.jpg Project1.jpg wifes.jpg First thing I did when I got mine-Wash-Clay-Wash-Protect. That was within 2 hours of driving off the lot. Once I did that I felt I can develop a game plan for long term care. Not my first Detail rodeo. Tbird is in Year two of correction/care and I still have my wife's DD Camry.
