I got a pass for my little local resort. Hopefully they'll just defer it to the following year if they don't open.

got an Epic pass that did not get to use but once.

Epic is giving a good % of that towards next season.
HMM. distancing could mean less crowded slopes? That would be nice. Spaced out chairs on the lift means moar freshys for me!

Could also easily see that leading to absurdly long lift lines though... UGH

Not yet, waiting to see how things play out. Vail is offering a discount for last season’s pass holders with some sort of protection behind it in case they can’t open though.

I bought a pass in the spring after confirming that it'll be fully refunded if covid shuts things down.

I can guarantee the IKON pass will do something similar too... which BLOWS.

Just saw this today too, don’t know how to feel about it, especially with the local smaller resorts that will of course have to buckle under the pressure and follow suit.

Riding Sierra mostly, sometimes I make the call the night before, or even the morning of. That’s gonna be tough, and I can see people just blocking off reservations for the entire season “just in case...”

I can imagine some major blowback from the public once they get stopped at the Boreal parking lot saying “sorry the mountain is at capacity...”

Me too. I generally don’t make the decision to head up until the night before as well. Their wording isn’t very clear but it sounds like you can reserve 7 days for the season (at any time), and then any other days you need to make your reservation the same week you want to go. I can see all the powder days getting blocked out pretty damn quick. They also need to specify how far they are going with ‘limited capacity’. I didn’t see anything about limiting the number of lift ticket sales, so there isn’t a capacity for them but fuck the passholders?

So a few buddies are already setting a few reservations at Vail spots, right now Sierra isn’t requiring reservations so that’s hopeful.

However, im seeing a bunch of word from the Tahoe counties setting up overflow hospitals just as new cases spike AGAIN. My worry is that just like last year, everyone pulls the plug one by one. I can’t imagine the Tahoe medical facilities can handle the incoming winter injuries stacking on top of their spike in Covid cases, and that alone is going to put some pressure on the resorts to re-think the entire season...

Anyone ski up at or near Kirkwood? A bit random, but I wanted to see if anyone could confirm if folks are ice fishing on Silver or Caples lake yet. Its extremely hard to find any updates on the ice fishing up that way (and I live about 4 hours away so its hard to check in-person) so figured it could be easier to check in on here and see if someone passes by those lakes on the way to the slopes.

Don't think it's been cold enough to build up a good layer of ice but I could be wrong.

Yeah it's early enough yet that it's tricky to judge where the ice may be (if its even there yet). The last week or so I've seen the temps up there get down to the teens. So that makes me optimistic that maybe if not thick enough yet... its still possibly starting to ice over and within another week or so it will be safe enough to fish on.

Damn! Honestly that’s kinda surprising. Not even a lick of ice around the edges? Sheesh! Thanks for tagging me! Super helpful.

It's been pretty dry since that early Nov storm. We may not have to worry about Covid killing the ski season, bad weather might do it first...
