I would be shocked if you find anyone willing to tune your truck for $150.

Any of you local guys interested in a project truck, 2006 2wd single cab with fancy livery already installed for when you turn it into a drift or drag truck. Also if anyone happens to be in the market for some audio in their Tacoma I’ve got a full setup ready to go several options I’ve metered my truck over 152db

I finally got my new 2020 Tacoma in last weekend. Originally when I ordered it, it was expected to be delivered in late April/early May, but due to covid it got delayed a couple times. So I expected to have most of spring and summer to get rustproofing figured out, but now I'm down to just a couple months if I'm lucky!

Anyone able to find someone who does Fluid Film application locally? If not, any thoughts on doing a TW MN Fluid Film meet-up where experienced FFers can help us newbies out? It would have to be outdoor and/or social-distanced of course.

I've heard not-great things about Ziebart and of course really bad things about rubberized undercoatings, so I don't want to go those routes.

Another option, if I feel like road-tripping to our friendly neighbors to the north, might be to go up to the Krown in Thunder Bay (assuming Canada even lets us go up there before winter, which might be a long shot the way things are going). They seem to have very good reviews and if they trust them in the Great White North, it must be pretty good.

Got my truck Krowned in Thunder Bay last year. Good shop.

I drive enough that I manage to pass a Krown shop every year so I’ve been sticking to that for my rust proofing. Eventually that’ll slow down and I’ll go with FF.

    Can’t go wrong either way.

Cleaning out the garage, and found these.

All Pro hi-lift mounts for the bed rails. Fits 2nd and 3rd gen trucks. Used one year under taneau cover. I got them and immediately coated in clear lacquer to embrace the welding heat marks. I have the other bracket, just not pictured.

New they are $129 plus shipping.

Did you just spray FF on the bottom or actually go through all the frame holes, door holes, tailgate, etc etc? The latter fiddly stuff is probably the part I'm more worried about, especially for the first time spraying it.

Everything. Just Take your time. Good thing the Tacoma sit pretty well up high. So you’ll get underneath easily.

There is a shop in the north metro that applies a fluid film alternative, it's just a different brand name, but seems to hold up well. I've had it on the bottom of my truck for 3 months now and after a dozen high pressure under body washes the film is still on there.
When I went there the shop was offering $500 for lifetime application, so you can pay once and get reapplied anytime.
It's just a 2 man shop and the owner is very meticulous about doing a great job and making sure the customer is happy. They did an absolutely amazing job getting every nook and cranny on my truck, he spent 4 hours spraying every inch of the frame, inside the rockers, in the doors, and took off my skid plate to spray under it. They also will treat and repair minor rust issues if your truck isn't brand new.

I've heard bad things about Ziebart. Don't they use a type of rubberized undercoating as well? Most people don't like that kind of undercoating because as soon as it is breached even a little, it traps in any water that gets in there and just accelerates the rusting. Check out youtube videos of people peeling back old rubberized undercoating just to find it completely rusted out underneath.

I'll check them out. Would love to get it done locally, especially for future touch-ups. I'm north metro, so actually prefer that too!

Lifetime would be nice but that seems a bit high? Aren't places like Krown usually only $200 for the first coat and then $25-50 for year touch-ups? If so, it would take a while to hit $500 worth.

He has been in the auto detail business all his life and they are just starting out on their own independent shop, but he said they would be working on different price points.
But if you figure $200 for the first one and then getting sprayed twice a year, it will pay for itself in 4 years.
Plus you know every time you have a true professional, who actually cares about the finished product, working on your vehicle.

True about having a Pro do it, with you there. Looked up some info and I'm definitely interested!

Do you get it touched up twice a year? Spring and Fall?

I just had it done this spring and plan on redoing it in October. They just recommended respraying twice a year, right before winter and then right after winter to deal with the wet spring weather.
The only negative, which is true of any oily undercoating, is that it's a bit of a hassle to work under your truck because every inch is covered in slick film. So if you plan to do any mods, do them first and then get sprayed.
