Fairly similar to what you find in Tillamook area. Kept running into closed areas because of the reservoir work. Was a good amount of snow around in places also.

Pretty much. I remember a lot of the trails we couldn't access as being a bit wider. Been years since I was on them though, and I may be wrong. Was driving a TJ back then, so everything felt wider

Lol. Funny how perspective can change.
I think I’m going to have to check it out in the fall after a little rain.

Okay-I was watching some off road channels and saw some for Battes Road in TSF. Looks pretty fun. Anyone been on it yet?

Bates Rd trail I have not been on. There's a long section and two super short sections. They are rated black diamond. If you go to Fern Rock Falls from hwy 6 you can go up the mountain there and it will take you to the Bates Rd area. Those forest roads dead end in a couple directions pretty quickly and the only ways down are the way you came in or head down Bates Rd.

Cool little area that you cannot access unless going directly from Hwy 6 or taking Bates Rd up to the top.

Where did you find that info? That’s the type of details I keep trying to find.
The stuff I read never made it sound black diamond rated, but given that no one here has talked about it, I wondered if it is more technical. I think it’s been over 2 years since anyone has mentioned it on TW.

I drove up there one day just out of pure curiosity.

First time I tried to drive up from Fern Rock Falls I found the road blocked with boulders. Later in the year I tried again (not sure why) and the road was cleared and open.

Purple is my recorded track. Green is Bates Rd as well as tiny yellow and orange sections to the left.

Some of that track Gaia refers to as the Jeep trail! You really get out an explorer man.
Now I’m curious about this trail. Wondering if it’s black diamond due to the steep climb and descent?...

I think that is one of the hills they skipped in the first video when there was snow. I’d bet right now it would be cake walk in 2wd. $20 if you can do it.

I’ve been intrigued by bates road for awhile. Would be down to check it out if a group wants to try to run it in the next few weeks. It seems like it’d be a lot less difficult in the dry season.

If we can get a run together, I’d be up for trying it cautiously. At least based on the videos it looks like the steep inclines are the biggest challenge. Not seeing much issues that needs more clearances to overcome. Good tires and a good line right?

Jeep trail on Gaia (gray double dotted line track)... I definitely remember going on that thinking it would get me across to another area and it ended up being a dead end or something...but I thought that was a different area? I can't find it on my Gaia now.

We did a black diamond hill climb last time... remember? Haha. It wasn't even that bad. Sometimes their ratings might be misleading. I also think some sections of the moderately rated trails we've been on might be equal to some black diamond.

I was alone the only time I saw Bates Rd. I don't really remember what each end of the trail even looked like. I'm curious again haha

Looks like could get a couple hours of fun around there without getting too crazy?!
