Can you document this? If so I'm sure a lot of 3rd gen owners would like to get the same update.

Nothing to document. It was just part of the 2020 press releases. Google 2020 Tacoma Review.
    I had a 2017 V6/Auto before my 2020 V6/Auto. There is a noticeable improvement.

There are two ECU IDs for 2019s, but so far, no one knows why and there are no TSBs yet. Keep an eye out at the nhtsa.gov site for new TSBs. They get posted there with a small bit of lag.

mine is a late build for 2019 and I don’t have any complaints with the transmission, except it is a bit too eager to upshift while towing uphill, even with ETC on, but that is what “S” is for.

How do I look up the ECU ID? I have OBD Fusion that I use for trans temps while towing, will that show the ECU ID?

Yes. OBD Fusion will tell you. Search out the Fusion posts by @MOC221_ . He put up the details a couple times in the past.

If you want to work out that shift issue, I can tell you that OVT is the answer. With several different tune options, you can get the shifting that you want.

I have an 18 that was like giving someone the ingredients for a cake and telling them go crazy, then they updated the ECU and it was like someone gave me a nicely baked cake, and just recently I added OVTune and it's like someone added icing on that cake.

Bare minimum make sure you have the ECU update.

Yeah in OBD fusion you select "Diagnostics" on the main screen, then choose the "Report" icon at the bottom. The list that comes up includes "Vehicle Information (Mode $09)". Select that and your cal ID should come up. Of course, you need to be connected to the dongle first and the ignition must be on.

DISCLAIMER: I've not used OBD Fusion in quite some time, as my POS apple died a slow death.

Try adding some sound deadening to the 2020. That with the new seals and glass is quieter inside then my wife's new Audi!

Don't suppose anyone has the part numbers for the better seals?

@MOC221_ Thanks for that! Now what am I looking at? Or can you point me to the list of the two ECUs so I can see which one I have?

Yep. Beyond that, a Learned Value reset or a tune are the only ways up.

You sound exactly like me. I was reviewing my usaa policy yesterday and it keeps a history of all the cars I’ve had since I became a usaa member back in 2003. 22 cars/trucks since 2003  I told myself I am going to have this tacoma for the long haul.
