For those of you interested in RTT’s, Desert Armor has a tent that has cross bars to mount stuff like kayaks on.

And they’re about to release a new hard shell tent like the warrior that has cross bars on it to mount things like kayaks.

Yakima Longarm is pretty versatile. Just my boat and it goes in the bed. Mine and my lady’s boat, they go over the bed with the bed bars.

    Snugtop XV (similar to Rebel).

The saddles are connected to a piece of hardwood using the Yakima mounting holes. Then 3 holes were drilled through the center line of the board. M8 bolts and eyenuts are used to fasten it to the rack.

Rollers needed to be as far back as I could get them so each roller has a bolt attaching to the rail.

The center roller attaches under the rack. It is used to center the bow until the bottom contacts the rollers.

Awesome setup. I have the Retrax on my Tacoma and am wanting to get Yakima overhaul setup to transport kayaks, paddle boards and lumber? At the moment they stick out the bed and I don’t want to keep doing that long term. At times though I will need the bed vertical access to haul furniture that will be taller than the rack system. Is it easy enough to take on and off the rack in the case you need to haul something that is too tall? Have you or anyone taken this one and off with the Retrax cover. I’ll probably have to do it once a month. I don’t want to have to raise and lower the cross bar everytime and worried that taking the rack on and off will be a lot of trouble. What is your thoughts?

I’ve been hauling canoes, etc since I was a kid and have always used a roof rack. I have a Yakima on the Tacoma

Here is what I made for my rack, it slides out about 2 feet for easy loading and unloading. Then when there are no kayaks in it, it slides all the way in and the tailgate closes up on it.

after initial setup, it's easier to remove the rack than raise/lower the crossbars. i actually wouldn't adjust the crossbars for anything less than what i would consider a permanent adjustment. as for removal, it's pretty quick. maybe 15 minutes. in your case, maybe less, since you could get away with just removing the rear section.
