2017 paint peeling off

That sucks I see you're in the bay area as well. Was hoping weather attributed to it as well i.e. Arizona desert, harsh winters with salt, etc. Try to stay on the washing and waxing too. Wonder if ceramic coating would help, or give them an out to not fix it if they found out since they could say the ceramic coating chemicals impacted the paint.

You would think since this is such a widespread issues they would just treat it like the other metallic colors and do a clear coat over it even though they can can technically get away with a single coat.

 

Looks like the same issue on my 2013 Honda Ridgeline that I sold to Carvana. They didn’t check the roof when they inspected the truck so I got a check for the full amount.

 

I think your talking about the “orange peel” texture that lines the bottom of the body. That’s normal. I believe it’s a more aggressive finish to keep away rock chips and what not that get slung from your tires.

my 4runner is ceramicly coated. The dealer told me once the issue becomes more severe they can do something about it. It’s just small flakes on the hood so far. When I was washing my vehicle I went over a spot with a microfiber towel and watched paint flake off. Before wiping it looked like bubbles. Lol

 

Was it rock chips that got worse or chipped on its own? I have full front PPF on mine too thats why.

 

no rock chips, just looked like a bubble. Went over it With a mit and it flaked off.

 

How much does it cost to get it ceramically coated? My hood is starting to peel like my old tacoma. Pretty lame how bad the paint is on these newer Tacomas

 

Any idea if using a cover will prevent this?

 

yeap I had those on the inside edges of my front fenders. Sanded and repainted myself, looks like shit but you only see it with the hood up anyways. Take it to Roseville Toyota and show it to the Service Manager he might be able to help. Toyota white paint is shit.

 

freeman Toyota is a really far drive for me. I just touched the paint up myself and deal with it. Maybe when it’s horrible I’ll be more proactive on it.

 

From my understanding Toyota warranties the paint for 60 months/unlimited mileage in some capacity. I don't have an issue so I've never looked into it but wouldn't this be covered or is it not severe enough to count towards their wording "rust-through" from what I quickly googled?

 

That simply means the rust has to eat a hole in the metal before warranty is considered.
However, what people seem to forget is Toyota allows their dealers to help out customers if the dealer chooses to do so. It's called goodwill and Toyota reimburses the dealer up to a certain amount.
How do you get it? You be nice. Treat them as you want to be treated. Or hardship. Lost job, etc. Or right past the warranty window by a few miles.
Always be nice, but always have a back up plan when nice don't work.

 

Update, those who thought I called a lawyer when I first noticed my paint peeling please don't make assumptions. I've never sued anyone and wish we had less lawyers and tort reform in this country. After discussing with Toyota Factory they inspected my truck with a paint meter and agreed to repaint the doors and hood. (goodwill they called it) After the repaint, I took it back to the dealer to see what they would give me as a trade-in but wouldn't even consider it because they said this is a known issue now and they cannot resale it without revealing the truck was repainted in areas. They are not even ordering new white Tacoma's to sell because they don't want issues with customers. Ask yourself if you would buy a new or used 040 white tacoma made in MEXICO knowing there is a possibility you will have to pay $1800+ in body and paint at sometime in the near future. I would've turned my truck in after the lease was up instead of purchasing in April if this presented itself at that time. Also, just received a letter from Toyota extending the paint warranty to 10 years on my daughters 2016 040 white Corolla. Go figure!

 

Well known issue with super white and Toyota (not just the Tacoma). Has nothing to do with Mexico.

 

Well you know more than Toyota then because they told me it was a process problem in the Baja Factory. My daughters Corolla was built there as well.

 

My mom’s Camry is 040 and made in Kentucky. Has the same paint issue. So..

 

My fenders are peeling and they finally agreed to do both of them. Not sure if I will sell or keep it afterward.

 

there are texas made trucks on this forum with the same problem. Its just plain shitty paint and shitty corporate standards for the paint.
