Looking to replace the transmission in my 2013 4wd. Where would you guys buy it from? I priced it at Toyota of Dallas/TRD parts for ~3250 plus it's going to probably be a couple hundred freight to Corpus. Should I look anywhere else? I've never bought anything this big from Toyota before. I'll be replacing the clutch too. The performance of the stock clutch is fine, but the throw out bearing situation isn't. Is a Toyota OEM clutch with the URD throw out bearing fix the best thing going?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Why not get the original transmission rebuilt? If its a manual, it should be fairly inexpensive.

The rebuild kit is $900. I asked about cost if I was to bring the transmission in and was quoted $1600, which seems reasonable considering the ridiculous $900 for the kit. I figure it would be about $2k if I bring the truck in. If I get a new transmission I can swap it myself and possibly get one that doesn't have an obnoxious gear whine at highway speed. I don't know if the RA60s are all this way or if it's the tolerances of this particular one. My 2004 is quiet in comparison.

FWIW the dealer says the transmission needs to be replaced and wants about $6k, lol.

Imo I’d rebuild it. But more importantly the transmission should have lasted longer than 7yrs unless your a gear grinder.

I still have my 2004 with 280k miles and I didn't replace the factory clutch until 270k. I bought this truck from an individual at 89k. The problem doesn't show up until the transmission has warmed up for 10-15 minutes, which would explain why we did the test drive a few blocks from his house. Now it's my problem. No idea how he killed the transmission. Probably letting his kid learn on it and it's a shit transmission with known weak synchros. Either way, has to be fixed.

I would check your local salvage yards and see if you can find a transmission out of a wrecked Tacoma. There are also companies that specialize in JDM imports. They typically offer a 6 month warranty Might find a good used one from one of those.

I believe that would be the cause.
