Not third gen, but... what’s the difference? chuck a few ~50lbs kayaks, a box with jack/tools, box with recovery gear, firewood, etc on the roof rack on the cap and bounce down some 4x4 roads, you’ll likely to want the peace of mind they provide. I likely carry 200+ lbs on my camper shell on long winded road trips, and do some proper 4x4 roads with all that shit on my cap. I suspect it’s the weight, but more the movement of the weight that can separate peoples beds. For $100 seems worth it. I saw some slight separation in my bed before I installed mine. Are they
overhyped? Maybe. Overbought by people that don’t carry RTT or a ton of shit on their camper shells? Yes. But I’m damn glad I have mine.

 

I have been thinking about adding windoors to my leer. Seems super helpful.

 

The bed rails? Like the interior rail system? No, they don’t. They do cover the plastic cap on the outside . At least mine does. This means no racks like that can go around soft toppers. But I suspect it keeps the water out better

 

Got a new-to-me snug top today via craigslist. the black cap fits well with the blacked-out chrome on my red taco, and i don't have to worry about the shell red not quite matching the oem red.

 

any tips on shining up my old shell? i sanded a little and painted and clear coated and now that's peeling.

I like the windoors.
Makes it easy to get to stuff and tie down points.
I have a fold up step I take camping and with it I can easily get to anything.
Also the view in the morning with them up is pretty nice.

 

The folding step was popular on my last trip.
A few of my friends borrowed it; one used it when they tied on their kayaks.

I've been looking for a different sticker to replace the original factory one.

I sent in some designs to a guy who makes decals. Was tough finding someone who would be able to replicate the same type of sticker (clear thick rubber) that comes with the factory Leer but it's pretty close.
