Ours was either from the 60's or 70's, not sure when they came out but I know dad didn't buy it new but it sure beat the old Lawn Boy push mower my brother and I had to mow with.

Ours looked like this, found this on the web.

Oh man, that is old school lol. I love the fact that they still make them exactly like this and charge $2k+ for them new. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

My boss mans dad has one he still uses, the engine let go and I had a 14HP Kohler I gave him, I mounted it on there and he says he can mow at an idle now. I had to move the rear guards back some and do a couple other modifications on it to make it fit.

Did he have the Brigs & Stratton motor on his? I know they bought Snapper in the early 2000s but I don't think they've been quite as reliable as the old Kohler motors. I usually don't go past 3rd gear just because that thing will scoot. Plus with no weight up front, they don't really like turning at higher speeds lol.

Bought a new Stihl FS56C today, daughter pulled the starter rope out of the 10yo FS56RC and it needed a new muffler, string head and the plug boot was missing. Yeah, it can all be fixed, but I needed it now. So we bought her a trimmer with handle bars (her choice)

the dealer has this on the the yard, 15.5hp Briggs 33” cut 2020 model, didn’t see a price, didn’t ask.

Short history lesson on my property: back in the late 1700s- into the mid 1920s or so, it operated as part of an apple orchard. There used to be a Dutch Colonial Farmhouse on the property that was (unfortunately) torn down before we bought it. I find miscellaneous bits of odds and ends nearly any time I do something.

So in the weeds in the back corner, I believe there to have been a migrant worker’s dwelling. There’s an old cook stove, remnants of a dwelling, and a small chimney that’s still standing. Down a small hill into my yard from that, there was a piece of concrete that was poured, no clue what it was for but I’m tired of catching it with the mower.

I pulled it up. My MF35 loader is down for maintenance right now, so I used the stand-on skid steer. It ain’t gonna win any races but it gets the job done and sure beats a wheel barrow! Note the steel pipe running through it. Water line, maybe? Drain line? No idea!

Temporary dumping spot around the corner, til I get the MF back up and running and don’t have to make two trips to the final dumping location.

Edit- I really have to finish cutting out those small trees haha

I started tearing the 3205 rear diff apart for pillow block bearing seals. Dumb design. 1/2 wet and 1/2 grease packed axle bearings. Only the center section is sealed. Axle housings are dry. Inner oil seals go out and oil runs into the dry axle housings then leaks out everywhere.

Someone dumb has messed with this already. It's got long bolts bottomed out in short bolt holes. Looks like an outer seal either hanging out on the right or someone doubled it up. White caulking all o er it. I just had lunch and am about to go out and pull the covers off.

    20200809_122324.jpg

Here she is, pillow block seals falling out of it. One bolt was broken off and daubed over.

What is everyone using on their buckets to attach chain or straps too for lifting like this?

    Hooks.
I've got a grab clevis welded at each corner of the bucket. For single-chain lift operations like that I string a chain between the hooks and hitch a second chain at the center to lift from.

I have the two chain hooks at the outer area, then the center welded loop with a clevised chain in the middle. All three are incredibly useful.

Used my MF35 Utility a while back to move a dead zero turn. Chain over the center hook on the bucket and attached to the front of the ZT. I need to repack the curl cylinder on this machine and the LJ500 I posted earlier...) but lifted it just fine.

Replaced one of the front tires on my tractor last night. I wish they wouldn't ship the small stuff (20x8.00x10) just mashed into containers; I had to use two ratchet straps, a LOT of time, several angry words, and some starting fluid to get the beads to seat because the tire was so deformed. And that was after picking out the best-looking one of the bunch we had on hand in the warehouse.

I can't stand it trying to put squished tires on. I've cut boards before to spread them and left them in the sun to heat up with the boards in, it helps a little if you have time to wait.

I left it in the bed of the truck all day while I was at work; even with the sun softening it up it was still a pain. Took me probably 5 minutes to get the old tire broken down & the new one on the rim (using spoons), but then another 30 minutes to get it aired up. :frusty:

I was talking to my father in law the other day about not putting stuff up like it should be and he said he's bad about it. Said he put his Stihl weedeater in his loader bucket one day then a couple days later was pushing some brush up. Said he looked and saw that he had made his weedeater a bent shaft instead of a straight shaft
