That's what I'd be afraid of. I mangled my bedside pretty good on a branch that popped up and caught it between the cab and bedside. I figure I don't have any business on a trail that tight anyways. I dont have any first hand experience with solid axle rigs, but dont the tires end up sticking out quite a bit on tons? Would a 2" bulge be a deal breaker? Stole a couple pics from pirate and tw posts. These are bigger than 2", but would you expect these to get ripped off?

If you go SAS, just skip fiber altogether. If it bulges, it will break. Rocks and trees make short work of expensive fiber body panels.

I don't doubt that, always looking for opportunities to upgrade whenever I break something. Guess replacing with a stock bedside would be a better idea, no fixing this:

Lol yeah, bedsides have a tendency to get smashed. Just get bigger tires.

If you want it you can build mounts that let you remove it quickly and easily osince it’s not a structural part of the vehicle. Not saying you should, but it makes more sense than repeatedly scraping body panels if you don’t want a raisin body. I don’t understand how someone could have the ingenuity to build a rock crawler and not figure that out. Either way if you rock crawl I don’t think you’ll be doing it with a setup like you’ve got now.

Yeah, I've got a long way to go on the build. Goal is to get it armored, lifted, and maybe locked on 35s before SASing way down the line in the far future. As much as I like to push it, I generally know my limits, and I dont want this truck to be a trail raisin. Might go with 2" glass and cross that bridge when I get there as far as how I end up using the truck. Today was a real doosie out of the norm. I dont think 2" on either side would be unreasonable for 99% of what I do, but in the future making panels removable may be a good idea.

So putting together a parts list for a 609 steering axle and stumped on the inner c’s and knuckles. I don’t want unit bearing and want to be able to use solid axle industries 6 lug hubs or other 6 lug hubs. Easy solution would be solid axle industries c’s and knuckles but they’re kind of pricey. Reid is out of the question and tg and spidertrax use unit bearings so they’re out.

essentially this kit is what I want with there knuckles and c’s and steering but without the price tag lol. https://solidaxle.com/collections/front-end-kits/products/6-on-5-5-front-end-kit-for-d60

i know it can be done but Pirate is trash now and hard to find current info/ pictures.

Used the solid kit on my rear 609 - not bad except the included c clips for the drive flanges were super big and almost impossible to get in or out. Got the next size down from McMaster Carr and worked perfectly. On the brake booster / MC combo again I ended up going 5th gen 4runner calipers and and 03-09 Lexus GX470 rotors with a shim on the inside pad which is a little larger than the tundra brakes. I initially was going to use the sequoia mc adapter from SOS Perfomance however it appears potentially only 01-04 taco automatics came with the single diaphragm booster it needs to bolt to and so I’m considering the 1 1/16 T100 MC - you said that 1 1/8 was a little too big you were thinking for your GM MC? This would take no modification since the T100 uses the same(ish?) booster as the 96-00 Tacos.

I used the solid kit on my rear 609 as well with no issues. I found it brand new in box but at used price so can’t complain.

as for master my current one is a 1/8 and actually works great but the booster has a hard spot in the initial pedal push which makes it kind of annoying to drive. After driving it for several hours this weekend I the 1 1/8 is perfect but wouldn’t mind trying a 1 1/16 just to see. Sucks bleeding the brakes so I’ll start with a different booster

Depending on where you live you can make the body survive. If you want to do hard stuff, it won’t.

My fiber fenders survived right up until Cadillac earlier this year. They ultimately returned to the soil by way of the South Tahoe Refuse Disposal company, to eventually be covered and turned into a golf course for yuppies with generational wealth. They've been half ass replaced by tubes.

Idk haha. I’ve made it this long with no real body damage and I’ve done a lot of “hard” stuff. takes some extra time and patience. Of course the Toyota mentality is you don’t wheel unless you raisin it lol

You also wheel in non forest LOL!!

In all seriousness I did all my body damage when I was IFS on 33s trying to follow my friends with SAS trucks or on narrow SE forest trails made for jeeps and ATVs. Flopping it twice IFS didnt help much either. After I went solid axle I dont really think I have even touched anything with the body.

You can fuck your shit up just as easy in non-forest areas. Mainly when you're trying to weave around rocks the size of small cars n stuff like that.
That's when it really pays to have the articulation of an sas to you can just drive right over that shit.

Haha just giving you guys shit. I have no shame in asking for a winch when shit gets bound up/tippy. I’m more about enjoying the trail and hanging with my dad than trying to show off and do the hardest thing haha. Don’t get me wrong though, I do a lot of the hard lines lol
