Used Trd Off Road skid plate from a 2016

Then the magic starts!

Degreased, pram machined edges, scotch brite, alcohol wiped, primed edges and baked. Dropped off to my paint guy at work! Can’t wait!

Came with hardware. Has a little rust but should clean up in magic aviation fluid!


$20 is a steal and after the paint should look sweet!
Guess I need to go find my 10mm socket to take the Air dam off and my 12mm to remove the current TRD SPORT skid.

• 2016 TRD OFF ROAD skid plate(2 piece) install on my 2017 TRD Sport

*10 mm to remove airdam
*12 mm skid plate removal/install
*Mr Torch (when you break a bolt)
*Locking pliers (when you break bolt)

Time:
*1hour total.
*Cleaning and paint prep of skid
30 minutes
(not including paint time/oven baking)
*Removal/ install
30 minutes
(Mine includes broke bolt removal)

Bought a 2016 TRD off-road skid plate set (2 piece ) $20 on fb marketplace
As is:

Quick clean, degrease , pram edges, scotch brite to rough up, and alcohol wipe for all residue removal.
Off to the paint booth with 5 shots of paint. Into the oven for baking overnight.
Next day:

Fast forward to Thursday 8/29/2019

Cleaned bolts and washers in the vented part washing station
Mineral spirits are awesome:




Grab tools /bolts/cardboard and out to the parking lot!

Step1
Remove air dam! 11bolts/10mm
Easiest thing you will do ever.
Step 2 :
Remove 4 bolts holding on skid plate and remove!

That bolt head broke on removal!
Insert pic of MR Torch:

Step 3: Install front skid
Step 4: Heavy grease applied to bolt holes and all threads on bolts

Can’t even call it a mod. Just removed the air dam/chin strap and repainted a used skid. Oh well! Looks better

Truck looks great, like how the interior trim turned out. I was actually just sitting in my truck today and was wondering how it would look with my trim paint to match the white lol.

I should of done gloss blue but I used a metallic paint. I still like it

Some love ‘em , some hate ‘em!

I think they improve the look. I like the smoked lens lights. when the truck is off you don’t notice the bulbs. They just blend in. Looks awesome!
