Good to know! I'm going to be towing a Jayco Jay Flight SLX 184BS Baja Edition upgraded with 190 watt solar panels. Should be around 4k loaded. I'm going to Troklift in Kent to have an Equalizer distribution/sway hitch installed once I get the trailer. I think 4.88 gears would really make a difference. Looking at upgrading the transmission cooler too. Maybe swap out the mirrors for some tow ones. All this is going to be cheaper then a new truck lol

Yup its a single axle. I paid $19k! I'm pretty proud I actually at one point I had 2 different dealers competing to get the best price for me. I even got the dealer i bought it from to upgrade me to the 190 watt after market solar panels as opposed to the 100watt stock one.

4.88? How big are your tires? Sorry, I don't know your rig. Build Thread?

I wouldn't think you'd need to go THAT deep on gears to tow, unless I'm missing something (which is obviously very possible). :)

I'm running 34" BFG KM3s. Yeah I was thinking about 4.56 gears but then I talked to the guys at Nitro Gear and explained that I'll be towing a trailer and they suggested 4.88s to get me closer back to stock performance. Especially on the mountain passes.

    What do you think?

That makes WAY more sense. I plan on going to 4.30s, but I also only plan to have a 32 inch tire. I tow a lot, but an open car hauler with SxS (about 4000-4500 loaded and fueled up). The wind resistance of an enclosed or TT definitely makes towing more work. I actually contemplated 4.56s for my truck, so I'm sure 4.88 would be the way to go for you with those 34s!

Ok good! Oh badass with the SxS, that thing must be a blast. I'm totally new to towing, I got a taste of it towing a utility trailer with a bunch of camping gear and the wife and kids werent big fans of RTT camping so I got the ok to buy a TT. SxS would be on the list next though! what do you have?

FYI, here's my truck hooked up to the Jayflight Baja 174BH. We had to pull the propane tank off the TT to keep my swingout case and Jerry Cans from hitting. Stock gears, stock size tires. It towed WAY better than I expected. Just was a little slower going than usual (specially since I was being careful with someone else's trailer).

Agreed. Depending on your ratio of towing to not towing I don't think it's worth it in the long run. I had 4.88 with 35"s at one point and hated driving it on the street. My buddy had 4.56 with 37"s, and it seemed like a good middle ground. Could be personal preference though.

My Kawasaki Teryx4 and my wife's Polaris Ace 570. Pic just taken at the Oregon dunes a few weeks ago. The only problem with the Taco is you can't pull a toy hauler big enough for all the toys!!

That's why I really like my Habitat. Not the comfort of a TT, but it gets us out there!

Really? That's interesting. Like most people I'll be driving it most of the time without a trailer. Might have to revisit this idea. I need more opinions!

I was actually wondering about the swing out gate too. I have 2 dogs that will probably travel in the canopy so being able to open the gate without dropping the trailer would be a big advantage. I was wondering if maybe relocating the propane tank and maybe using an extender hitch might work. I'll have to see when i get the trailer, should be any day now!

I have 34" BFG KM3s. Seems like I'm right in the middle of 4.56s or 4.88s

The guys are just differentials said 4.88s

Yeah, I couldn't open the swingout hardly at all. Even without the propane tank, the trailer jack is in the way. That could easily be replaced with a tip up one though.
