I recently bought this Cerakote Trim Coat to use on the OEM tonneau cover on my 2017. The instructions say to wipe off any of the product that gets on painted surfaces or glass.
I haven't been able to find any info about vinyl or rubber surfaces with regard to Cerakote. My concern is the rubber/vinyl parts where the hinges are located.

I've not used it but I'm sure it will be fine there. Seems like they would have made it to go around window molding which is about the same material.

I decided to email the Cerakote people to ask the question there as well. This is the (speedy) response I received...

Thank you for choosing Cerakote Trim Coat. We do not recommend applying Trim Coat to any rubber pieces/sealers. Trim Coat was not designed to be used to rubber surfaces.

Tips on applying the Trim Coat:
    • Remove all previous trim dressing off the trim with Blue Dawn dish soap and water (you may need to repeat this steps a few times depending on how saturated the trim is)
    • Make sure the trim is bone dry
    • Make sure you are using a saturated Trim Coat wipe if the wipe starts to get dry open a new wipe
    • Move back and forth with a 50% overlap on each pass

Thanks for the update, good to know. That is odd that a lot of the auto detailing focused brands make their trim coatings compatible with rubber and other surface materials. I need to eventually put something on my 2016 oem cover. I did Solution Finish to darken it back up a couple months ago but haven't had a chance to apply anything to protect it yet.

Wolfgang exterior trim sealant was what finally did the trick for me. Clean the tonneau with soap water first and then dry, apply the sealant and watch your jaw drop. It will be slimy for the first week but after that it will look her black brand new from the factory.

I've actually have used that a couple of times on it. It lasts slightly longer than Carpro PERL and looks about the same.

Been meaning to put the rest of my Carpro DLUX bottle on there but the weather has not been in my favor when I've got the time.

Bonjour! My first time posting and new to detailing! I was thinking of applying Cerakote on my husband's Tacoma OEM hard tonneau cover after seeing it on Apex Details YouTube channel. Last summer, I noticed his cover was faded so I decided to try TLC Ceratrim. I prepared the surface according to the directions. It was very hard to apply as product was very thick, almost like molasses. It looked great! But after a few rain showers, there was a greasy film on each side of the truck bed which was hard to remove. And after a 2-3 months, it faded away. I hope Cerakote won't do the same thing. Any suggestions are welcome :). Happy Holidays!

How did it all turn out? Does it last long enough to be worth the money? Also, how many wipes did it take to complete?

It turned out pretty good, not perfect, but much better than it looked before the application. I used 7 out of the pack of 10 wipes. I wiped over the rubber part of the hinges as well, but I don't think that helped (or hurt) anything. In one place on the hard plastic part of the hinge part (between the rubbers) I have some peeling/chipping of the CeraKote. Maybe I didn't get that part clean enough I dunno. The applicator pads leave some white fuzz on the tonneau after the application, but that can be brushed off after a day or so. It takes a fair amount of rubbing/wiping to get the somewhat rough finish of the tonneau to look smooth and even during application. Water beads and sits on top of the finish to this day . . .

Nice. I was going to grab some for all the other trim anyway but I may think about the tonneau as well.
