    Old car story 3: (1996-1999)

We sold the El Camino because it was slow and I had learned how to drive a stick. I didn't have the time or money to put into a transmission conversion, so it went. I drove around my dad's Isuzu Rodeo in the meantime. Fun little ute, aside from a rattling transmission lever. Would hoon again.

Eventually it was found, a 1990 Ford Probe with a five speed. My first front wheel drive car. Had an aftermarked spoiler and a short antenna, but otherwise in good shape. I loved that car. I loved popup headlights. The Mazda engine was great. I put a stereo and fog lights in. I got my first speeding ticket in it, and I don't do things small. Ended up losing my license for nine months so it got sold. I had ruined third gear as well.

In fact, I loved the Probe (no jokes, philistines) so much that to this day I'd love to own a second gen GT. Unfortunately these things are disappearing at a rapid clip. There's like four for sale on Auto Trader and Car Gurus combined and only one is a GT. Too bad they want an absurd $8k for it. If one came available for cheap, I would absolutely buy one with the excuse it was for my daughters.

    Old car story 4: (2000-2001)

When I got my license back, I needed something to drive. My dad let me drive his 1997 Wrangler that he got, but was now in a Explorer Sport Trac (why?).

You just don't own Jeeps, or drive them. You modify them.

I would browse the fledgling internet for advice and ideas, and shop the Quadratec catalog. So much stuff you could buy, some of it actually good. I had left all my vehicles to this point pretty much alone, except for stereos. I bought safari tops, new wheels and tires, learned how to weld sliders and bumpers...so much fun. I even built a sub box that replaced the rear seat cushion for super stealth bass. I guess that's how I got started in woodworking as well. Here it is at someone's house mocking a front bumper that they were going to start selling. I honestly can't remember at this point if that was my permanent bumper after that. The winch wasn't mine, I know that. I also fabbed a cruise control out of a bicycle gear and attached it to the stick shift. I was young and stupid

The downfall of this came when I forgot to attach the sway bar link ends after a weekend of camping. I had to swerve on the highway and came close to rolling it. GF wouldn't ride in it again, and I sold it to appease her. She dumped me a month later anyway.

It was super fun, and I'd own one again in a heartbeat. Just not another four cylinder.

71 in a 45. Georgia had a serious offender law for drivers under 21. Major offenses would be a six month revocation automatically, and 25 over triggered it. In my defense I was actually moving with traffic.

I just got my first speeding ticket in 25 years a couple months ago. The speed limit dropped from 65 to 45, I was going 72. $225 ticket, he could’ve charged me with reckless driving, I got lucky.

My last speeding ticket was in 1992, Tom Green County TX. I was "observed by aircraft" doing better than a 12 second quarter mile.

Joke's on them - I was doing better than a 10 second quarter mile. BUUUUUUUT since they didn't catch me on radar they could only write the ticket for 74 in a 55.

Maybe they just didn't have the ball to do it.

I haven't gotten any tickets since I stopped driving stupid little racer cars. By the time my insurance payment got close to 450 a month I said enough. That was 15 years ago

My buddy's dad was selling a 93 Toyota pickup truck, extended cab, 4 x 4, with a leer canopy and good tires. It did 0 to 60 in about 5 minutes. That was a really good move, I was getting into snowboarding a lot more and that thing got me back and forth to the ski hill for years.

If I wasn't so damn tall I'd still have it, the cab was too small for me.

It's been black Tacomas for me ever since, usually with a canopy. I had a 2011 Access Cab for a while but I wanted more space. I really like my double cab long bed, I don't think it's too long, it's just right. It's still light enough that it feels and drives like the older Toyota's from the 90s

As far as your wheel choices go, if you're torn between aftermarket or OEM I would go OEM all day long.

A lot of aftermarket wheels don't fit correctly on the face of the hub. They come with those silly nylon spacers that get lost. Anything that requires special lug nuts would be a no go for me.

Are those SEMA wheels OEM? I'd go with them. They look sharp and you know they're going to fit right and be secure

I have been an OEM guy forever. The only aftermarket wheels I ever went with were on the TJ, because the ones that came with the 4cyl were pathetic. Even then I liked the OEM options better.

The SEMA wheels are indeed OEM. And they'll fit the BFG KO2 or the Open Country A/T that I also like. They are in my cart just waiting for me to pull the trigger. Going to head up to Discount Tire in a bit to see what the cost is to switch the tires over. That will inform the timing.

OK, I think I have made my decision but I'm going to let it marinate for a few days. It's the SEMA wheels, but I think I need to see the bronze in person before I can say for sure. It's darker than the FX Pros, and reminds me more of a faucet bronze or a copper than other bronze finishes I've seen. It's only the one picture I can find, though, there are absolutely no real world shots.

    Matte Bronze
    Gloss Gunmetal
    Matte Grey
    Matte Black

Not in any particular order. TBD.

They all look great. It's too bad I can't get any more pictures of the one that needs it the most.

Matte bronze is always a winner with blue trucks.
