Seems like starting a fresh game and immediately going into a Live Weather session works consistently

My dad came over to try out flight sim and after waiting for it to start, get the plane, airport, and weather set he started his flight and the plane went full throttle without any input and then it took off and flew straight and level.
I ended up checking all of the connections, restarting the game, and finally went into settings to try to figure out why some of the controls on the yoke were working but nothing else was and finally realized that somehow AI control got turned on accidentally  so a tip if you have something similar happen, check the AI control setting.

Lots more 30 series little leaks. Looks like the 3080 will have a 10GB and 20GB version. No Ti at launch. Basically the 20GB version is a Ti replacement while leaving room for another card in the future. The 3090 will have 24GB of new GDDR6X.

Pricing on the 3090 could be as high as $2k, bottom end around $1.4K it's likely a Titan replacement sku.

All leaks of course so not confirmed but interesting. None the less. Pricing looks to be about what it was at launch for the 20 series so don't expect any drop.

He does have his private pilot’s license so I expected him to be competent just not competent to the point of not needing to touch the controls

He ended up over stressing one of the planes he flew and made it disintegrate while doing rolls and flips, apparently I didn’t tell him I had airframe stress enabled.

What I find hilarious is he used to be the “serious” pilot in flight simulator but I find that these days he’s out looping, stalling, spinning, and I fly from airport to airport and try to focus on the fundamentals

Haha that's awesome. Learning to fly is something I'd really like to do someday. We spend a lot of time up north in extremely remote areas, but there are a few airfields up there and they have a fueling station for them too. Someday I'd like to by a postage stamp size lot, leave a truck up there and be able to fly up.

In other news, Building this weekend. Hopefully Friday night or Saturday. It'll be functional but my last purchases will be Monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Monitor wise, should I shoot for something that's just well suited for 1440 & 60hz?

Keyboard wise I'm still shopping around. Just want something mechanically sound, not one for flair.

And mouse wise, I dunno. How's this guy? Game wise I'm just a shooter kinda guy.

Monitors are personal preference. It depends on what you want. Competitive shooters? Need 144hz minimum and great pixel response times (ignore g2g ratings, find reviews), preferably 240hz since that's the new easy button. Like beautiful high resolution gaming? Minimum 32" panel 1440P if not 4K. Do lots of productivity type tasks? High color accuracy panels are the only way to go. Want to watch a lot of content? HDR 600 is future proof.

I'll also start some shit on here and say that people need to get used to curved monitors. Once you move from flat to curve, the biggest jump, you won't notice it and there are advantages in terms of immersion on larger panels.

Bottom line, you can pick one or two features from that list and still get a monitor under $400. Pick two or three, and you're probably going to double that. Want all four and, well, the sky is the limit.

I personally just picked up a Samsung Odyssey G7 as a pretty amazing all around monitor. No real shortfalls, maybe the fact it's only 1440P but I didn't want to drive a 4K panel yet. 240Hz, excellent response times, 32", G-sync and Freesync, HDR 600, and more. Only problem, it was a $800 CAD panel lol.

I think I've seen a few reviews on that panel that mentioned poor pixel response times and coronas. MSI has a monitor that uses the same "second tier" Samsung panel. That being said if you're using it for anything other than a FPS you probably won't need the best pixel fresh times. Just get ready for images to smear as you move rapidly and your mouse pointer to have a bit of a tail when you flip it across the screen. Like I said, you might not even notice. That was the issue on my old Asus 34XG. Great looking monitor in steady use, terrible performance in real time shooters.

Here, found one. I looked at it a while ago. https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-cq27g2u-cq27g2/#Conclusion

Typical "second tier" VA problems. To be fair I'm using that term simply because Samsung owns VA technology rights and has made/licensed newer panels that don't have the cons this one does. So panels that have bad black smearing are now considered a grade lower than those like in my new monitor that don't have that problem. You might never notice, especially if this is your first high refresh rate monitor, but one look at a higher end IPS or VA panel and you'll know where it falls short.

The price is great though. It's a little crappy to that it only has DP 1.2, which will limit color accuracy for the sake of adaptive sync.

I think unfortunately it's going to be a wasting money scenario of buying in two phases. Just due to the economy right now.

Just want something that is "good enough" for the time being.

Once I find I'm really digging this, which I'm sure I will, and work picks back up to pure chaos again, I'll probably buy the best tier stuff I can afford.

@Sterdog this is probably the better way to go about this. Monitor wise, what's my best approach / value if I'm looking in the $300-550 range. I could bump to $600 but I don't want to go too far if I'm just going to empty the wallet the next time around.

Typically I try and set myself up when I'm more or less forced to buy like this, that whatever I compromise on would make a suitable back up.

Would MS Flight Sim work okay with a X360 controller, or is using KBM pretty much required?
