Auto Transmission Temperature OBD II upgrade or ...

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but here goes;
2012 Tacoma Prerunner, 4.0 L with the A750E transmission.
Using both these links below, I've completed the procedure and am trying to do the final level routine at temperature check.

Everything through shifting the "N,D,N,D,N,D, AT TEMP light on for 2 seconds" works fine but when I go back to "Park", I get no light. I've tried it multiple times with no luck, so two questions;

I'm in south Texas where it's 95 to 100 degrees ambient. The local Tacoma tech tells me the proper temperature range for checking the level is from 97 to 115 degrees. Would it be reasonable to just run the engine for about 5 minutes, then do the level drain without getting the light?

2nd question. I understand on the 2012 that the transmission temperature isn't a standard OBD II function, but that I can get a Toyota upgrade on-line that will allow my ANCEL AD410 to read the temp. If so, where can I find this upgrade...my searches haven't worked.

 

Yea, your ambient temp is the problem. Your probably in check mode already.

when you buy the fusion app, open up the app, go to settings, there is an option to buy the upgrade.

 

User defined PID. There are 2, one for the transmission and the other for the torque converter. Same formula, different letters.
The screenshot is of my tranny temp. Change E,F to G,H for the other.

If that doesn't work, change the letters to A,B,C,D respectively.

 

I live in South Texas also. The other morning around 1030 I ran an errand about 3 miles from my house and monitored the trans temp. After two red lights and speeds between 30 and 40 mph, the trans temp was running 117 to 119. Pulling back into my driveway the temp was then 130. I don't think running the engine for 5 minutes would be enough. When I changed the trans fluid in my truck I can not remember how long it took before the temp reached the check level temp, other that it seemed like a long time.

I use the Torque app to monitor the temp. You are correct about the Tacoma trans temp isn't a standard OBD II function. I had to add the PID's to the app to get the pan and converter temps. Not sure about your reader and adding PID's.

 

Sitting there idling the tranny is not doing much/any work. Pretty sure 5 minutes won't be enough time. I'm thinking 15-20...at least that is what it took me in a 70 deg F environment - and I put the truck in Drive and kept my foot on the break to help temps a little. Might want to double check on the 97-115 range. I recall it being more along the lines of 115 to 130? Either way, per the "shorting" procedure you need to get the light in park to validate temp. Your close. I think giving it more time will get you there. Good luck.
