Another thought on PCI-E 4.0. How much you want to bet that the fancy new direct SSD access that nVidia is toting as matching thr PS5s memory access depends on PCI-E 4.0 bandwidth?

It might be that you're fine without the feature but in the future it could be a problem.

Straight from Nvidia and Microsoft. We might not see it until 2022. Just in time for my DDR5 build.

"Microsoft is targeting a developer preview of DirectStorage for Windows for game developers next year, and NVIDIA RTX gamers will be able to take advantage of RTX IO-enhanced games as soon as they become available."

Anyone have a moment to help me Monitor shop? I don't want to break up the new tech talk. I'm learning a lot reading up about what you guys are talking about.

Honestly there are only two monitors I'd pull the trigger on right now and both are in the $700-$1000 range. Everything else I'd wait until HDMI 2.1 is standard. The two monitors I'd buy now are the Samsung G7 and LG 27GN950 because they have VESA display compression technology that let's them get max resolution, refresh rate, and true colours without any real significant trade offs. Everything else available has tradeoffs that HDMI 2.1 or implementation of VESA compression will solve in upcoming versions.

Makes complete sense. I mean it took how long for developers to use ray tracing lol. Again my point is that I wouldn't waste money on a PCI-E 3.0 motherboard if upgrading this year. If you can wait for DDR5 that's not a bad plan but who knows when that will actually drop and you'll get caught in the memory speed vs CL race for the first couple of years as well. Chasing faster things never ends lol.

Yep I know it's going to be a complete budget buy. But the fact is that if I bring anything new into the house that's worth more than $500-600 right now, my wife will hang me. What I can afford isn't the issue. It's what I'm allowed. Haha. For now.

I'm looking at the $350-500 range. I'd like 1440, +120hz, no real opinion on curved vs flat. I'm aware it's a big compromise at this price point. It's to be expected. If I had to trade features, I'd like to maintain a good black screen as I play mostly in a dark room, and try to keep the white light washout to a minimum. A huge hdr spectrum of color isn't a super key if I can get those other things. If that helps at all.

I know in othe areas certain brands tend to hone in on certain attributes. Is it the same for monitors?

Was thinking something around this range.

Funny story, that's my second monitor lol. That was the first G-Sync panel I ever bought because on sale Dell fire sales them for about $250 USD occasionally. They're good for FPS but the colour is really washed out and the viewing angle, especially vertically, is pretty brutal. I still use mine next to the G7 and the difference may as well be ocean wide. TN panel problems, but a solid choice for someone who wants adaptive sync and mid tier high refresh rate primarily for PvP gaming.

That's a really solid monitor. I almost bought one when it came out. The ELMB tech works really well and the VA panel means the blacks look incredible for a backlit panel at that price point.

Would this be a significant upgrade?

Long term plan is a high end monitor by next Christmas. All this stuff I have now will probably become the backup / second computer in the house.

Already leaked but Lenovo accidentally confirmed 16GB 3070Ti, probably coming next year along with 20GB 3080Ti.

I need a GPU now so I can't wait that long. AMD has 14 days to show us their response.
