Lived in the Akron area all my life. Got a 2019 Sport 4X4. I used to have a Ranger 2x4 and never had a problem. I expect the Tacoma should do well in the snow. I have a set of rims I will use in the winter with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires. Any tricks or tips for driving in our normal winters? The Tacoma is the first 4x4 I ever owned.

Couple tips. I’m sure others can add

    4x4 doesn’t matter on ice.
    Slow and smooth is safe.
Tires and skills are the most important. Never had those Goodyear’s so I cannot attest.
Just like pulling a trailer, stopping will be your biggest issue. However gaining traction from a stop will also present its problems.

Hardest part is being stuck behind idiots with bald tires. You survived in a ranger no problem, you’ll feel like a god in the 4x4. Also, left foot brake.

Born and raised in Akron. I had Toyo Open Country II's on my tacoma. Last winter, my taco did amazing. We had that one really bad snow on a saturday night and picked my wife up from her shift at akron general and there was about a foot of snow on the backroads by Dart Ave. Plowed right through it.

Tips, plan ahead so you're not rushing to go anywhere. Use 4x4 when you need it but be sure to turn it off before you get on dry pavement or areas with full traction. Braking is the same with 4x4 as it is with 4x2. Don't get too confident or cocky once you realize how great 4x4 is as that can lead to easily losing control that you can counter steer and correct.

    Good luck and be safe!

i had a gen 1 , 2x4 , . it absolutely sukd in snow , remedy was adding as much weight in bed as possible ==helped . I now have gen 2 4x4 . and drive as carefully as i did with gen 1 . -getting over-competent will get u in the ditch quick- --->>off topic here , tacoma frames absolutely hate salt and brine , . if you havent done some form of additional undercoating , i suggest u read the plethora of articles on tacoma frame rust issues , and act accordingly....
