Yes, exactly. You could splice into your existing harness and add one of these and tuck it up out the way when not needed

Hmm, that's kinda goofy. Wonder why toyota made the switch 7 flat is usually standard for a mid-size pickup. Heck, now that I know that, I'd just go ahead and get a 7 flat/5flat combo connector and get rid of the RV style, no wonder the pins on the 2nd and 3rd gen for the functions don't line up!

I originally thought it would be an easy swap but my 2nd and my dads 3rd gen cap diagrams looked different. So I thought I would check with the pros on Tacoworld.

    They are different.
It’s not worth making one fit the other.
Way easier to add the 4/pin IMO.

I did, and it all kinds of confusing.

    Fits 4.6 V8 only
Simple installation, yet no wiring harness shown?
And it doesn’t look like it just plugs into the OE socket either?

    :playball:
I know it says it fits all 4 body on frame Toyota’s. When I search the part number it’s a 3rd gen plug. Which we assume at this point isn’t going to work with a 2nd gen. :playball:

a pic of the back of it here it's just a male connector with pins, looks like you unplug the OEM T12 and plug this in. Not sure if this will works for 2nd gen though without physically seeing the connector and don't see a schematic for pinouts included to know wire functions match up with the correct pins. Been many moons since I saw my OEM connector lol

I’m going to be honest. I haven’t crawled under my truck an looked at how the T12 plugs in.
But goin by these pics, it doesn’t look like it will fit?
I don’t see any snap for the clip, like you see on the 3rd Gen or the one on Amazon?

So looks like maybe if the connector physically fit, It would work but the 4 pin wouldn’t be wired to the right pins. You’d have to depin and match the 2nd gen pin #s to match the 3rd gen layout. Of course that cover would be incorrect for which wire is which function at that point.

there isn’t. It’s that BE1 connector upstream. The 2nd gen comes as a whole assembly with the connector on the other end that plugs in near the spare tire on the drivers side.

You fellas are right. More work than it’s worth. I’ll splice in my 1,3,5,6 and set me up something to hold it out of the way when not in use.
