If found this photo from member @Easy_rider who I don't believe is active anymore. I've run a Mr. Buddy heater in my 4 wheel camper. But it tends to get hot as heck. Anyone run one of these with a softopper like in the photo? Just concerned about the residual heat. (2).jpg

That is definitely not a softopper in that picture and there’s a smaller buddy heater to be had. That one sure is overkill for such a small space

Yes I understand the photo is not a softopper but the question was has anyone ever run a Mr. Buddy Heater with a softopper. I have the little Mr. Buddy Heater. The smaller version which I believe to be what is in the pic. As the larger version has 2 canisters for gas as far as I can remember.

This is the one I use in the cab when sleeping in it. It will definitely work in a soft topper. Tanks tend to only last about 4 hours for me.

They all have a low oxygen switch so they’ll turn off before CO poisoning

I've had rigid caps and now have a soft topper. The buddy heater works the same in both.
There isno noticable difference heating one or the other. They both are hot when it's hot and they both are cold when it's cold.

I think my ice fishin’ shack is about the same sq. footage & I use a heater about half that size. Be growin’ bananas with that Rascal.

    Stock for now.. maybe
Just gotta trust that the switch will work when needed. I wouldn't trust it but I'd rather be cold (to a point) than hot. I know my thinking is overkill but even switches made by NASA have failed...

OP. Maybe a heating pad, better sleeping bag, SOMEONE ELSE: )in your sleeping bag to keep you warmer, or something might work better.
Im sure a small buddy heater will work but it has direct heat and they do get hot to the touch. If you go that route make sure its secured out of the way so no one gets hurt . I would definitely ventilate as well

Edit. Thats why most switches have double, triple redundancies. I doubt our buddy heaters have that. Be careful and smart thats all im saying

What's this supposed to mean? I've slept in both with heaters. They both suck when it's stupid hot or stupid cold.

They also have to remain upright. If tilted or knocked over they automatically turn off.

I’d take stupid cold over stupid hot any day. Got some real good cold weather gear so not afraid to spend a weekend on a frozen lake. But you just can’t escape stupid hot. Open windows & the bugs eat you alive.

I'm with you there. I almost put that info in as well but figured some people might think thats another fail safe but it doesn't help if your sleeping bag moves into the hot zone and starts melting but doesn't knock it over. We are on the same page, just hope people are thinking about these things
I sometimes have weird spasms at night and other times I've had a bit to much good beer or Jameson. Gotta enjoy life alittle right! Lol.

Understood. I take short naps and I keep in a location that is safe enough that only melting can happen, but the thought is always there.
